[Mini-Mingle] A Shopping Trip
Given that those who're staying at the ADI housing are getting a clothing allowance, Meredith has taken it upon herself to organize a shopping trip to the Marshalls at Gloucester Crossing. The store is full of surprising deals, and a wide enough variety of clothing that people of all genders might find something interesting. There's even some of the new fall selections in stock already.
While Meredith's been sure to grab those who obviously need a little help, and those who'll obviously enjoy the chance to get out of ADI territory, everyone's welcome to come along for the trip.
(ooc: feel free to tag around with one another as well as me, this is just a fun way to introduce our characters to one another)

Meredith Idlewild - OC
Perhaps she's asking your character if they've seen any ankle boots in the shoe section, or debating between a pair of blouses. Or perhaps you've asked her for help she's glad to offer. Today, at least, there's no worry on her face.

Which is fine, and totally something that Tim knew, and it seriously doesn't matter, but it's... weird, anyway. It's weird because he might have literally woken up on the wrong side of the bed today, trying to will himself to face this entirely mundane field trip with good spirits. The store is decently packed, and Tim had given the sliding doors one last mournful look before trudging inside.
He wants a car.
But jeans and sneakers will have to do.
Eventually he floats back to Meredith, almost entirely on accident. (It's not his fault the aisles can get so crowded.) Tim resists the boyish urge to bump her. He raises a brow. "I'm obligated to inform you that you have your eyes on a ridiculous amount of khaki."

Meredith is leaning on the cart by this point, the cane resting in the basket.
"This is an oasis of normalcy for me."

He ends up close to Meredith just because it seems like she's talking to everyone, and that makes him look a little less weird talking to her. "You, uh-- you sure seem to know a lot about this place. Do they have one of these back where you come from?" He gestures vaguely in the air, as if that helps somehow to make him sound less like a fool.

Meredith nods, glancing at Martin. There's a pause, as she tries to decide if the question is rude or not. "Pardon the presumption, but I really am curious--are you from the UK, or is your accent from another world and the translation thing is only making it sound that way?"

It might buy a button from one of his usual bespoke suits.

Meredith holds up a blouse to the light to see how sheer it is. "Besides, if we earn bonuses for missions, you can save up for nicer stuff with a little effort. Right?"

He likes it! Ren gives himself a confident nod on the mirror before he leaves, accidentally bumping on whoever was about to enter the newly emptied booth. Oops. He's not doing great on the clumsiness as of late.)
... I'm sorry!

(He was mostly scanning the place for a larger mirror to see the entire outfit. He doesn't have it in him to buy it now, but he keeps the style in the back of his mind for when he does have money he'd like to spend on shopping.)
Are you new?

Mercy Graves | OC
"That-that's not- I'm sorry, that's not on sale right now."
"Oh, come on," the young woman wheedles, flashing a smile and a wink. "How about this? I'll throw in some of this dried basil I got." She pulls out a small leather pouch from her haversack, setting that on the counter. "It's been blessed by the Spring Tide, sure as you like."
The clerk stares at her, and just... continues staring. Mercy does not back down, just shakes the bag of herbs lightly. Someone may want to save this poor person.

"The prices here are set, there's really no room to haggle, unfortunately." Her tone is placating, and she offers a toothy smile to both the clerk and to Mercy.

Still, he has to laugh at the audacity.
"What's the Spring Tide? Something where you come from?" he remembers hearing something about that, maybe when he'd first arrived ... Does he know this woman? Eh, doesn't matter. He pushes a couple bills up onto the counter at the clerk, who seems all too grateful for his stepping in.
As much as Toji loves money, he loves someone being in his debt even more.

She is going through a selection of shirts she deems as nice. They're button-up, very dark academia, and she seems lost in thought. She'll get her party clothes a bit later, when there aren't full adults here to judge her. She'll turn to whoever's closest, raise a black shirt with little floral decorative seams on the collar.]
Thoughts?

Keith | Voltron: Legendary Defender
for better or for worse (worse lbr), keith is looking for casual clothe similar to the ones he favored back in his home world. so while this means he's got a cart full of very boring black and grey t-shirts and pants, he can also be found perusing the jacket section and eyeing up lovely (?) designs such as this. the boots he's eyeing are at least.. arguably less tragic.
intervene? help him actually find better clothes? ask him why the heck he's wearing space battle armor?
or alternatively, while you're standing in line at the cash register, he'll turn to your character and ask somewhat flatly: ]
This place anything like your home?
no subject
[Meredith eyes the contents of Keith's cart, gaze lingering on the boots.]
Those are going to stand out a lot here, for the record. You'll draw attention.

Thackery Binx | Hocus Pocus | ota
Which is why he'd been curious enough to tag along. He's become something of a people-watcher in his long life, and most stores would chase out a stray cat, or worse, call animal control. This is a new opportunity to see how normal people live their lives.
Right now he's definitely not looking normal himself. It's disconcerting being constantly acknowledged--or rather, a point about five feet above his head being acknowledged and addressed. Looking for a brief reprieve from the onslaught of unaccustomed social demand, he's slipped under the merchandise into the center of a round clothes rack. Normally that would be a perfectly serviceable hiding spot; he's a little addled right now and hasn't taken into account that it definitely looks like a teenage boy is sitting in wait under a bunch of dresses in the women's petites section--not a good look. At least one or two normal shoppers have noticed; unless someone more understanding intervenes, he's liable to get hauled out by security.

takashi shirogane ( voltron )
[ alright. so shiro has his tiny shopping cart, with a stylish vest, some plain tees and a few pants with far too many pockets. functionality is more important than fashion okay. speaking of which, he needs to find himself some boots… in summer. heading off for that section,
they see me rollin’one might hear him wheeling by, because of course he has the shopping cart with the busted front roller that squeals something awful as it constantly pulls left. calm as ever, shiro pays it no mind… ](a.2)
[ … until he glances left and sees what section he’s currently passing. he lets the cart win then and abruptly turns, heading down the aisle of toiletries. this is where one might find him, squinting at the slew of pumpkin-themed liquid soaps. meet me at the pumpkin patch, pumpkin chai, pumpkin spice, spiced pumpkin -- wait, aren’t those last two the same thing?
pumpkin spice in one hand and spiced pumpkin in the other, he looks between the two, before glancing to the person browsing nearby and asks -- ]
… What month is it again?
[ excuse him, but he’s been in space for over two years now. between that and how things have been chaotic since arriving… here, it’s very likely he has his dates mixed up. it’s just -- this is a lot of pumpkin for what he thought was summer.
also yes. let the record show he is dressed like a blended power ranger spaceman. so if it is near halloween, maybe this is good?? ]
(a.3)
[ on that subject -- space. he’s very squinty whenever he’s outside, he should pick up some sunglasses. so, eventually, shiro is at the shades tower, thumbing the column round and round. eventually, he plucks up a pair of aviators and fits them on. mirror, mirror, where’s a mirror -- ah ha!
there’s someone standing in front of it already and with him being a good two yards behind, as well as a head taller, he’s able to get a decent enough glance at himself to think sold, these glasses will do. he flashes a smile at the other person in the mirror and gives a friendly -- ]
Don’t mind me. [ a beat and just because he’s a sweet bean -- ] Cute hat by the way. You thinking about getting it?
a.3
I don't think so. I don't really need a fedora in my life here, as cute as it is. Wardrobe staples first. Work skirts and slacks, blouses, maybe one set of pajamas...
[Finally, she grabs her cane and turns around, looking Shiro up-and-down briefly. Considering him, really.]
