[Mini-Mingle] A Shopping Trip

Given that those who're staying at the ADI housing are getting a clothing allowance, Meredith has taken it upon herself to organize a shopping trip to the Marshalls at Gloucester Crossing. The store is full of surprising deals, and a wide enough variety of clothing that people of all genders might find something interesting. There's even some of the new fall selections in stock already.

While Meredith's been sure to grab those who obviously need a little help, and those who'll obviously enjoy the chance to get out of ADI territory, everyone's welcome to come along for the trip.

(ooc: feel free to tag around with one another as well as me, this is just a fun way to introduce our characters to one another)

[Meredith doesn't turn, instead looking at the Shiro in the mirror, making eye contact that way.]

I don't think so. I don't really need a fedora in my life here, as cute as it is. Wardrobe staples first. Work skirts and slacks, blouses, maybe one set of pajamas...

[Finally, she grabs her cane and turns around, looking Shiro up-and-down briefly. Considering him, really.]

[ staples. smart. given that their modest stipend is very modest, picking out the essentials is the best way to go about this. the aviators? well, they’re a whopping twelve bucks, so he thinks he can splurge the extra. he tips them up as she turns, pushing back his floof to settle the glasses there up top. he’s a breath shy of comment, but he hesitates as she takes her cane.

and hates himself a little for it.

shiro knows a thing or two about being scrutinized for -- attributes that fall outside of the widely accepted norm. it’s a blink and you miss it pause, but a pause all the same, so when he's the one on the end of a considering gaze, he doesn’t quite ruffle the way he usually does. he gives a half smile instead, wondering if it’s the facial scar, the weird hair or the spacesuit.

might as well address the elephant in the room. ]

… Yeah, this isn’t very wardrobe typical, is it?

You're clearly a little displaced here. But you've got the physique to pull off just about any outfit you want.

[The spacesuit, at least, is what earns a comment from her. The rest just really isn't her business, any more than the reason for her cane and ring splints is anyone else's business.]

[ clearly, he echos with a hint of amusement. the rest though? it’s meant to be a compliment, he thinks, but there’s so much to unpack with his physical appearance. what’s hidden under this armor -- heh, no, he really can’t pull off anything he wants. nonetheless, he keeps that half smile and goes for a full one, hoping to gloss over this with some amount of grace. ]

Something low profile -- that’s what I’m going for. [ too bad his fashion sense is largely out of use. years of military uniforms will do that to a person. and more than that: ] It’s been awhile since I’ve done my own shopping. Department stores aren’t what I would call popular in space.

Well, if you want any help--this is my native time period, and I'm a boring office worker in real life. Back home, I mean. On the one hand, it means I don't have any impressive stories to tell like I'm sure the rest of you do. On the other, I know how to blend in here-and-now.
