[Mini-Mingle] A Shopping Trip

Given that those who're staying at the ADI housing are getting a clothing allowance, Meredith has taken it upon herself to organize a shopping trip to the Marshalls at Gloucester Crossing. The store is full of surprising deals, and a wide enough variety of clothing that people of all genders might find something interesting. There's even some of the new fall selections in stock already.

While Meredith's been sure to grab those who obviously need a little help, and those who'll obviously enjoy the chance to get out of ADI territory, everyone's welcome to come along for the trip.

(ooc: feel free to tag around with one another as well as me, this is just a fun way to introduce our characters to one another)

[Aelwyn jumped at the chance to go shopping. It's one of her favourite things to do.

She is going through a selection of shirts she deems as nice. They're button-up, very dark academia, and she seems lost in thought. She'll get her party clothes a bit later, when there aren't full adults here to judge her. She'll turn to whoever's closest, raise a black shirt with little floral decorative seams on the collar.]

[Zoe startles, not having expected anyone to talk to her on this little trip—but then, why wouldn't they? Kind of a silly thought on her part, honestly. But she's impressed!]

Looks nice. Nicer'n somethin' I could ever pull off... Honestly, uh, I feel like I should be the one askin' you for advice, here.

[She beams at the compliment. It's not like she's unused to hearing praise, but still, she likes that she can still come across as better than she is after everything.]

[Style preferences... That's something to think about. Zoe glances down at herself, acknowledging her baggy jeans and plain, faded t-shirt.]

Just about anythin's better'n this... I guess nothin' too flashy or cute. I don't really wanna stand out. But it wouldn't hurt to look a little more professional. [She purses her lips in thought.] Feminine, but not girly?

Hmmm... [She looks over the options, in serious contemplation mode and picks out two tops, one a more formal light purple blouse and one a grey and blue longsleeved tunic.]

Thoughts? Too girly? Not your colour?

[Martin's not really talking to too many people out here, more intent on getting soemthing he needs and getting out, until he's very suddenly addressed. His head whips up before he realizes exactly who it is talking to him, resisting the urge to point at himself to confirm and hoping she's not talking to someone just to his left.]

Uhm, it's... nice? Simple, but uhm, if-- if that's your thing.

[That looks like it's the wrong answer. She frowns, looks at it and puts it back.]

Hmmm. [She starts going through them and pulls out a floral blouse. She holds it up to her torso to compare and looks at the mirror, her frown deepening.]

See, now I look like I'm either a thousand years old or a lesbian. [She knows she's some form of gay, but she still doesn't want to dress the part. Internalised homophobia.]

[Oh no, he didn't mean to insult her, but he also has to try very hard to stifle a giggle at that comparison.]

I mean, it's not bad to be a lesbian.

[Says the fellow queer, doing the gay dance of figuring out when other gays are present. But he does lean over just a bit to look at her options.]

I guess it depends what you want to be dressing like? Out of the, uh, the options here.

Being a lesbian and dressing like one are two different beasts, really.

Something... professional, I suppose would be my choice? I mean, we're working in an office. But something that actually looks good too. Dark Academia, I believe it's called? I don't know. All of these clothes are so cheap and trashy...

[This is actually a little bit fun, or would at least be more fun if he wasn't so off base right now. He does nod along though, thinking more about Jon's style of dress back before the... everything.]

Oh, uh-- yeah, I get that, uhm. I mean, maybe you can just find some basic stuff here? You know like, uh, plain color shirts and pants and things to start. You don't think they have a uniform or anything, do you?

[Now he's getting a bit nervous about this, seeing as the clothes he tumbled in with are a heavy jacket, some incredibly beat-up jeans, and an old undershirt. Not exactly... office material.]

[Aelwyn just looks at him, furrowing her brows. She's not sure she should be asking this man for fashion advice. But just a dress shirt, one that's perhaps a bit too fancy. That would work.]

Didn't you know? That's what they told me.

[Having fucked with Martin Blackwood, she will go and pick up a crisp white shirt with a small black ribbon tied onto the collar. Neat.]

[People probably shouldn't be asking Martin for most advice, but all of that has been removed from his thought process in the front of 'oh no there's a uniform'. He purses his lips a moment like he's trying to scan his memories and think about if he was told that and simply forgot, and instead just asks again, as if he is absolutely going to get the truth.]

Wait, w-- who said that? There was a lot of stuff in the, the orientation, sure, but shouldn't they give us clothes if they want us to wear something specific? We just got here!
