[Mini-Mingle] A Shopping Trip

Given that those who're staying at the ADI housing are getting a clothing allowance, Meredith has taken it upon herself to organize a shopping trip to the Marshalls at Gloucester Crossing. The store is full of surprising deals, and a wide enough variety of clothing that people of all genders might find something interesting. There's even some of the new fall selections in stock already.

While Meredith's been sure to grab those who obviously need a little help, and those who'll obviously enjoy the chance to get out of ADI territory, everyone's welcome to come along for the trip.

(ooc: feel free to tag around with one another as well as me, this is just a fun way to introduce our characters to one another)

(Ren just happens to have been checking out the area, completely unaware that this was an outing for the newcomers. Well, perhaps the commotion of a group of people gives him that much information, and he smiles as he leaves one of the changing booths with a complete different look from what he arrived in - no longer in a v-neck and blazer, but instead, in a comfortable red sweater and darker jeans.

He likes it! Ren gives himself a confident nod on the mirror before he leaves, accidentally bumping on whoever was about to enter the newly emptied booth. Oops. He's not doing great on the clumsiness as of late.)

... I'm sorry!

[Meredith steps back, trying to make sure she doesn't accidentally trip him with her cane in the process.] No, no, probably my fault. Are you alright?

[forethinking]

I wasn't looking.

(He was mostly scanning the place for a larger mirror to see the entire outfit. He doesn't have it in him to buy it now, but he keeps the style in the back of his mind for when he does have money he'd like to spend on shopping.)

Are you new?

(Considering he's seen her walking around with others, helping out and such.)

Yes--part of why I'm here, I need more clothes than what I arrived with.

[She offers a soft, polite smile.]

Meredith Idlewild. Nice to meet you.

Ren Amamiya.

(Likewise on the smile. He doesn't have money to buy any, unfortunately, but that won't stop him from looking around.)

I'm new, too.

[Aelwyn bumps her head against the doorway, surprised by being collided with. Ow. She goes to numb that pain before remembering her lack of powers. Ugh.]

No need to apologize. Just... watch where you're going, I guess?

Are you hurt?

(Hovering hands express how much he'd like to help, but he isn't sure exactly how. It's a stranger, he's not really keen on touching someone he doesn't know, but he makes himself as available as possible.)

[She snorts. She's still rubbing her head but she doesn't look too bothered. Also probably a good call to not touch her, she doesn't even know what would happen.]

It's a doorway, hardly a bullet wound. Chances are pretty good that I'll survive, but if not, I'm taxing you for my funeral.

[She goes and picks up her shopping bag that she dropped after the collision, revealing stacks of formal clothes that are probably a bit expensive for her budget.]

(Oh, she's funny! Ren laughs a little, running his hand through his hair until it reaches the back of his neck, a little embarrassed, and yet...)

What should I wear for it?

(Ah, but he should to the very least help her pick out the bag and clothes that rolled out of it. He does notice the sheer amount of clothes, but it's really not his place to point it out.)

Well, as my would-be murderer, go with an all white suit. As little taste as possible, please. It's what I would have wanted.

[She nods at him, which might be her way of thanking him for the help? Or Acknowledging his introduction? It's certainly what she does.]

I think we're all new here, except our beloved overseers anyway. I'm Aelwyn. Aelwyn Abernant. Not that that name means much here, thank god.

(Oh, that's interesting! Ren himself is looking into his newfound freedom. Back home, he now had PubSec on his tail, watching his every move ever since he's got out of juvie. Here, he's as anonymous as he had been before.)

Infamous, more like. My sister's the chosen one of our kind.

[She smiles, halfway between sardonic and fond. She's not about to say that her sister got the position because Aelwyn permanently sullied their name by murdering the previous chosen one. Or all the other shit she did.]

It's probably a bit of a leap to follow that up with "you?" But at the same time, we're a strange bunch. Are you famous back home?

(Ah. He knows that feeling too, albeit he doesn't think he's anything special to have been chosen as such. It was just a coincidence, something that has nothing much about him perse.

Nothing in him says killer, because that is very far from him indeed, but also, nothing probably says thief either. Her question makes him hum a little before he shakes his head. He's only famous within the police, the Phantom Thieves are famous instead, but rather anonymous... So no! Ren Amamiya is, for the most part, a normal citizen now.)
