[With how much Rue's come to use their smartphone over the last five or so months, they feel like quite the pro as they begin this video message across the network, their feathery countenance perfectly in frame and prettily lit from a nearby window.]
Now that my beloved and I have finally picked a date, I find that our wedding is fast approaching. I must confess, I was originally quite set on our ceremony being a delightful mix of both goblin and faerie ritual, but I've come to find some human practices absolutely fascinating!
Tell me, do you have any particular wedding traditions from your homeland that stand out as unique?

[ Yes. Yes, Rue does. ]

I fully expect my guests to riot if I did not. [It's a tease, but Rue's hosted enough weddings that maybe there's some real truth to the bit.]
I've met with a few bakeries so far but I haven't been very impressed yet. [the struggle of working with magic cakes their whole life] Do you have any suggestions on where I should order from? You've been here longer than I and I do so trust your opinion.

I didn't know you had a beloved. Who is it?

[They hadn't expected so many sweet words of congratulations, but they absolutely preen at them anyway.]
Have you met my darling Hob? He's a most handsome bugbear, about my height, has a penchant for rolling his 'r's...

[just a tease, of course. Gloucester would never survive such an arrangement.]
To be perfectly honest, our engagement has run a little longer than what one would expect back in the Feywilds. But it has been a bit of a blessing, to have the chance to spend so much time together, to get to know one another on such a deep, personal level. I would have married him the moment he proposed if we'd had the chance, but I do find myself even more in love with him now, this many months later.
[What a blessing indeed. Rue wouldn't trade these last few months for anything.]
But enough of my sentimentality, please indulge me, my dear. What kind of music is most popular for dancing where you're from?

I’ve been married before [Didn’t work out but that’s neither here nor there] and we did ours in a tent in the backyard of of my family’s ranch, at sunset.
[He grew up ridiculously wealthy and even while mostly estranged from his family they still threw quite the bash. Of course, he hated that part…]
Do you have rings? The ring ceremony where we exchanged vows was…it was nice.
no subject
[A tent on a family's ranch honestly sounds like heaven. They can only imagine how lovely it was, no matter how things ended up.]
We do not, though I have seen humans exchange them during their vows in movies. What is the purpose of such an exchange? A token of affection shared?

Its a more Jewish tradition, but after the vows are given the bride and groom step on a glass bottle wrapped up in a towel or napkins. There are like a lot of meanings attributed to why, most of the time its just for good luck or breaking the glass symbolizes breaking away from your old lives to make a new family together.
[There are the more religious reasons, but Peter only kind of knows them, trying to go into depth feels weird given he was only kind of raised Jewish by Ben and May.]

Of all the things I expected to hear in return, I am most surprised by all of these generous offers of help. And maybe just a touch overwhelmed. Thank you, young one. If there's anything that I need of you, I shall be certain to ask. Though most especially, I hope you'll attend, if it would please you.
[With a plus one perhaps :>]
Oh! That is one I have never heard of before, but it sounds most beautiful! I hadn't considered any symbolism as deeply as that, but it makes sense. I suppose on an even grander scale, that is exactly what we've done, breaking free of our courts and leaving our old titles behind to be together instead. To turn that into such powerful symbol... Truly, I have goosebumps. That's breathtaking.

Etheirys hath yet as many myriad traditions as there are stars within her firmament, so disparate are her peoples. Common to many, however, is that the betrothed prepare a symbol of their undying devotion - most often a pair of rings, though in Thanvnair it is, I believe, a woven band - and undertake a solemn pilgrimage together, seeking the blessings of the Gods at a place of significance to each.
no subject
[They say playfully. But also consider how true it likely is.]
A pilgrimage! [That sounds both beautiful in symbolism but also very exhausting. Definitely not something Rue is very interested in.] Are the weddings there more of a serious affair? Coming from the Feywilds, I admit, the kind I am most used to are anything but. I'm sure you can imagine the kind of parties that the fey like to enjoy. It really isn't a wedding at all if the after party doesn't last for at least a week.

I haven't been to a lot of weddings, but we ring bells to end the ceremony - especially if there's a church, they'll ring the big bells.
And sometimes people throw uncooked rice at the newlyweds. That always looked kinda fun.
no subject
[Rue has certainly heard some strange traditions but this one...]
Uncooked rice? I mean, I suppose that is better than the alternative, but still, I can't understand why rice would be thrown in the first place. Is it symbolic of something?

I see most people have already given you some ideas. Where I'm from, each of the bridal pair picks a best man or maid of honor. They are the first attendant to the groom or bride, often a close friend or relative. They help them with organizational matters, are a key witness to the ceremony and carry the rings up to the altar.
no subject
Attendants to the wedded pair? That must be a position of celebrated honor, to be picked as most trustworthy among their group. I can see why that would be such a necessary role to fill, someone to trust with keeping schedule and track of the little to-dos the day of.
[It's maybe a little sorrowful reminder that Rue's best friend will not be in attendance, though even without the newfound distance, they are not certain she would have even attended anyway.]
I regret that my dearest friend will not be able to be present. But tell me, dear doctor, if you were to wed here in this land, who would you have be your best man or maid of honor?

THEY LOOK AMAZING.
Now, Jeff would respond with video in kind, but he doesn't 100% trust his recorded image to actually do what it's supposed to do, so he's just gonna. Not. Text it is. ]
music!
all weddings need to have awesome music
also please please pleaaaase tell me about goblin and faerie rituals that sounds so fucking cool
no subject
Music is indeed something I'm still considering! There's just so much of it to choose from, I hardly know where to begin! Though my dear Malcolm has informed me of a tradition called the chicken dance, which seems to be quite the popular song and dance for wedding receptions. Are you familiar with it?
Your enthusiasm is a delight as always! I'm afraid that goblin traditions are anything but, though please don't tell my betrothed as much. It's the goblin piece that I am finding most difficult to incorporate smoothly. So many of their traditions involve eating live animals or mud wrestling, I hardly know what to include.

Oh my dear! I'm even more excited than before! Weddings are such a splendid, resplendent celebration of love, not just between the wedded pair but among their dearest friends and family as well. Verily, I would be so happy to share such a moment with you, my dear friend, to have you included in such a special day to me.

[She frowns slightly.]
Well, they're meant to be longer than the hair and trail behind the couple. They symbolize the fact that even as you're starting to stitch yourselves together, you got a lot of weaving left to do and a long life following after that day.

[Ignore them, Mercy. They're just imagining their beloved.]
Knickolas would look darling with ribbons tied into his fur, wouldn't he? And what beautiful meaning behind it!
