Can my home security camera be hacked? [NETWORK] feb 6

Who: Tim Drake
Username: timjdrake
Warnings: Gross invasion of privacy, surveillance, hacking, cyberstalking as per Plotty Plot. Allusion to self-harm, auditory hallucinations, filth, as per ARRHYTHMIA.

[Tim figures he'll keep it short. Most good sales pitches are. He's dressed the part of Tech-Exec meets Casual Friday- hair in need of a wash, tired eyes and all. But despite it, his words are crisp and it's clear he's only online for a reason.]

I need someone to look over code. I'll even take several someone's. I'm not looking for a Certificate of Completion from Google-U as your past experience, but you will be well paid for your time, effort, and discretion if you're chosen.

If money's not your thing, let me know what currency is worth your while and we can work something out.

There's a fair chance that I'll ask for your skills in the near future. You'll always be welcome to decline the invitation but, again. Your discretion is and will be invaluable to this process.

Anyone interested should follow up with a direct message, email, whatever-- my name is Tim Drake. You may have known me when I worked in I.T. before.

[As he signs off he mumbles that, "At least starting at the computer is better than cleaning up your room all day."]

(It will be only minutes before he gets a text message from un: chosewell.)

I'm interested.
failedpromise: (Oh?)

Got it.

(She can be patient. In fact, everything feels weirdly fast now that she perceives time in a more Human manner -- she used to wait much longer for responses.)

I look forward to working with you.

(Absolute confidence. She has zero doubts she will pass that aptitude test with flying colors. In fact, she's looking forward to the opportunity to show off.)

It's okay, this isn't the worst attempt at cybersecurity technobabble I've encountered

[personal profile] failedpromise 2023-02-08 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
(She doesn't tell him that she doesn't need luck, though he might gather that that's the case: it's almost certainly in the info that ADI has on her that she's a military grade AI. It's not something she keeps a secret, after all.

She's pretty prevalent on the network and she's generally helpful though also kind of a little shit (yeah, most of her posting on that one is being done under someone else's account, but it really ought to be obvious that this is her). Honestly, there's a lot of stuff she's posted on there.

As for the test...

Well, she can't operate as quickly as she used to be able to, but today's cybersecurity has about as much power against her as tissue paper. Over five centuries of exploits that hadn't been discovered when this technology was made and an entire suite of scripts and tools she's programmed to help now that she can't connect to things directly make stealing security footage a piece of cake, and it's not hard for her to use the visuals to find out those identies and from there it's not hard to get the rest...

Like a lot of hacking, it takes a bit but she'll get it done and send him the result.)

I'm guessing that this task you want done has something to do with cellphones?

You mean the company that sold security systems in the early 21st century? It's been defunct for centuries in my time.

(There are many possible meanings for the acronym, of course, but he was talking about security systems.)

Well, I see someone did their research. (Somewhere, she's grinning.) He's actually one of the office rats. A former coworker kept three as pets and a few of us have continued to care for them -- I originally added mine to the group so I could keep him for monitoring long-term, but I'm pretty sure by this point the chances of anything new happening are low. You can find them in (And she'll name the area the rats are kept in.)

Where are you getting well-paying money? You just got back and you're not working.
abrightboy: (sadness)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2023-02-07 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you not going to pay them like you said?

[He's largely worried about Tim and what someone disgruntled might do to him if he renegs.]
abrightboy: (calls bullshit)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2023-02-08 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, my apologies. Where are you working?
abrightboy: (well?)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2023-02-08 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you stealing?
abrightboy: (consider this)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2023-02-08 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
How are you planning to get it?
abrightboy: (holding it in)
