Dogtown Emergency Service - Open Network - Video
Who: John Carter
Username: Carter
Warnings: None so far; potential discussion of Dogtown related injuries and happenings, will warn accordingly in the threads
[The video starts... awkwardly. The angle is slightly off at first and when Carter wants to begin, the phone falls over. There's some fumbling, blurry images, noisy mic sounds, but he actually manages to salvage this a few seconds in. It's not a disaster, just... off. The slightly clumsy handling of someone who learned about a new technology later in life and has only been using it for a couple of months.
Also, not enough to warrant editing this out, sorry, he's lazyand probably doesn't know how to do it.]
Uh, good morning. Sorry about that?
For those of you who don't know me, my name is John Carter. I'm an emergency doctor and I work in medical. I'm looking for volunteers.
I'm worried about the Dogtown situation. We've had several people on here warnings us of invisible bullets, madness inducing birds, blood river monsters... and who knows what else is waiting for us in there.
[A sigh. He looks worried.]
Thing is, I've treated several people now who got hurt. Really hurt. Now, it's never been an inviting place, I know that, but I don't think it's ever been this bad. And I don't think people are gonna stop exploring anytime soon, so...
I want to set up two mobile clinics outside the entrances so those of you who go in there have quick access to medical supplies and treatment if things go wrong. I already talked to ADI and they're willing the fund the bill. If people want to help out, that'd be great.
And if you head out there, be careful.

I can only operate for about 24 hours before I have to be charged so it'd be hard for me to go into Dogtown itself, but I do have some medical knowledge - I'd be willing to help out with a clinic.

[He smirks, imagining he'd try that line on Benton or one of his other supervisors. Man, what he would have given for that excuse during his internship!]
Is it dangerous for you to shut down if you go on for too long? Or is it more like... us humans just falling asleep eventually?

[The idea of shutting down after a day and hoping someone would just come and start you up again...]
But it's good to know. So if I find you unresponsive, what, uh, what would I have to do?
[Is there like, a socket, he doesn't want to ask for a socket, it sounds so wrong and potentially offensive.]
We could keep a generator at the clinic, just in case. Would that... uh, would that work? I don't know how much power would be involved there...

Sockets on the back of my neck. (She gestures, though she doesn't try to show him.) I keep a purse just for carrying the cord. (This she will show him. She reaches down into said purse and pulls out ...wow that's a huge power brick, she could probably use that as a bludgeoning weapon.) The battery also generates a lot of excess heat, not a fire risk but the area should be reasonably ventilated and I need to be minimally covered.(Which is potentially awkward, but Cortana did spend her first few months here running around completely naked, so it's safe to say she doesn't actually care.)
no subject
[That's. That's a pretty big brick and he gapes at the screen for a moment.]
Uh. I'll keep that in mind, thanks. How long does it take to, uh. Charge you?
no subject
(Her battery takes a while to charge. It's sort of like how a human needs to sleep ...except Humans don't fall into comas if they don't.)
It's probably better to avoid getting to the point where someone else has to hook me up.
(So she can go home and recharge in her bedroom, and no one has to deal with the awkwardness of having a half naked woman just lying around.)

[There's a pause.]
In case that ever happens, though, I will. I mean, I would. If. [If what. If you need someone to plug you in, yeah, he is not going to say that? Can he somehow not make this awkward.]
Okay, how about we start over. First, we make sure it never comes to that, but if it ever does because this place sucks, I now know what to do. So... you don't have to worry. If you were worried. Which you probably weren't.
no subject
Because Cortana is absolutely struggling not to laugh. It's a little uncanny valley, honestly, with the way she's overwhelmingly human but still a little stiff when it comes to this body's ability to do facial expressions.)
Plug me in?
(The fake innocence in her tone, on the other hand, is on point.
Okay she'll get back to being serious, now. Still, she's got a big and thankfully mostly natural looking smile on her face.)
Sounds like I'm in good hands.

Long.
Pause.]
Yeahhh. There's really no way for me to salvage this is there.
[He grins a little bashfully, shrugging his shoulders.]
Thanks, I try.
no subject
Could be worse.
(Awwww. It's adorable how awkward he is.)
If you want, I can always show you basic maintenance.
no subject
[He scratches his head.]
I mean that would be, I think that would be good? Just in case you get injured. I'm not... I'm really bad with computers, though, I hope it's not too complicated?
no subject
I don't-(She stops, reconsiders what she's trying to say, starts again.)Don't worry, I don't intend to show you anything more complicated than swapping batteries. Most of my internal structure is similar to a Human's anyway - contracting muscles that connect to an underlying skeleton, water based cooling system, organs located in the head, chest, and torso... it's just my bones are steel, the muscles are special coated coils of fishing line, and the organs are computer parts.
