Who: andrea quill + open When: throughout july Where: all around Summary: tdm prompts, other plotting things Warnings: tbd! other than potential phobias mentioned from the tdm
( patrols gave her something to do and they were the easiest ways of identifying or locating any threats. they weren't exactly the most interesting thing to do or what quill really wanted to be spending her time doing but they needed some way of being safe.
she hasn't yet noticed the birds, even if the eerie quietness is tickling some part of her mind, instead wondering (aloud)-- )
Do they really think the barrier will keep anything out?
We don't know how many of us they actually need for that. We don't know what they actually know. All we know is what they tell us, and - for all we know - it isn't even true.
( quill is not dressed for a beach, not with her heels and leather-look leggings, though she wouldn't know how to dress for a beach either. or would want to. no, she's here because she has to be and is looking pretty unimpressed about the whole thing.
the only saving grace of it all is perhaps the food, which is why she's made her way over to the barbeque, poking at a hot dog before deciding it's worth it and eating it. and this is where she'll probably hang out for most of the day unless she goes for a walk )
[ Kate is not going to comment on the way that Quill is dressed. It's better to be overdressed than under in her opinion and that's just it. It's her opinion. How Quill is dressed is just none of her business.
She's wearing a simple yellow dress and flip-flops sandals that are perfect for the beach. She's also carrying a clipboard. Kate works in Staff Development. Mandatory fun is right up her alley. ]
[Donna isdressed for the beach with a bathing suit, wide-brimmed, and sunglasses. After what happened in Wolf Pen, she's fairly certain she deserves a nice little beach holiday. Maybe for the next month or so. She's been lazing in the sun for a while, but her mind turns to thoughts of food, and she wanders over to see what's on offer.]
Hotdogs, hamburgers... or fried clams?
[She glances at the nearest person, who just happens to be Quill.]
You don't eat the shell, you silly goose! [Donna huffs at the idea.] You usually steam them and then crack them open and eat the meat that's inside. Not sure how it works with frying. Probably pull the meat out beforehand?
We're not shelling them now. Someone else already did that. C'mon. You need to try this. At least I've had regular steamed clams.
[She gestures Quill to follow and joins the queue for fresh fried clams.]
Had some really interesting shellfish once when I was out exploring with my friends. Alien lobsters. Things were as big as a pony and fed the entire restaurant for the evening. Paired lovely with the wine.
Do they really expect 'magic' to just settle as an answer?
( which she found absurd, one of those many human things she found really absurd. she was stood before one of the open containers, looking rather unimpressed at the items that had been collected. cutlery. crayons. really. this was the trouble? )
Technology, aliens, monsters, fine. But magic?
( she could explain the effects so much better using science )

► BIRDSWATCHING
Maybe the idea is to keep something in.

( frown. well, they didn't want them exploring outside of the town but quill also didn't really care about that. maybe she'd sneak out )
no subject
[Hard to say; they're never given the whole picture.]
no subject
( yes, more people arrived but never often or many )

Hi. I know we haven't met yet. I'm Kate.
no subject
( she frowns, noticing that clipboard. clipboards are never something enjoyable )
What do you want?
no subject
Like I said, we haven't met yet. I'm trying to introduce myself.
no subject
( that sounded weird to her but also quill wasn't exactly friendly )
That's it?
no subject
[ Also, she needed to get her name for attendance purposes. ]
no subject
( quill manages to make that sound as if it was a strange thing when actually it was the most normal thing ever )
Most people want something. You can't just want someone's name.
no subject
[ Her tone is getting more cheerful. It's either a defense or offence mechanism, time will tell which it is. ]
I also needed your name for attendance. I wouldn't want you to get docked in pay.

Hotdogs, hamburgers... or fried clams?
[She glances at the nearest person, who just happens to be Quill.]
Have you tried these?
no subject
( there's a very confused sound from her, a matching expression )
What are they?
no subject
[She gives Quill a confused look.]
They're like... like little shell things?
[She uses her hands to mime a shell opening and closing.]
no subject
( a shell? sounds... unpleasant even to her )
I wouldn't have thought your teeth could handle it.
( human teeth. because you eat the shell right )
me, having to go and look up how people eat clams because i don't do seafood...
you're the best of us
( give her something she can stab with a stick and roast over fire? is that how cooking works?
let's be honest, quill's earth cooking is terrible, she hasn't figured it out. whatever she did on rhodia apparently doesn't apply )
And they're small.
Apologies for the delay! Gonna try to get back on the horse here after some brainrot.
[She gestures Quill to follow and joins the queue for fresh fried clams.]
