[establishing a friendship with yelena had been a surprisingly easy thing to accomplish. perhaps it has something to do with the fact that they come from the same world, but wanda quietly believes that it is because of the relationship they both had with natasha—someone whom she even looked up to. it's hard to say that losing her makes their friendship any more significant, but it is something to hold on to, regardless.
and what wanda really needed was a break—a girls' day out, just walking around and talking and tasting the different delights found in gloucester.
ice cream tastes so much nicer in the cold weather for some reason.]
Not unless you had at least three broken ribs after the fact.
[in her very informed opinion, about whatever adventure yelena has been telling her about. chocolate might be a very basic choice for ice cream, but wanda doesn't care. the streets of gloucester are quiet and empty but for the few cars and pedestrians going about their business, and the sound of the ocean gets louder as they walk down towards the docks.]

Sorry I'm so late, I could've sworn I replied to this, sob
[It's said far too cheerfully, as though broken bones are no more severe than an inconvenient sunburn after a day at the beach, something one accepts a little teasing over and recovers from with a minimum of fuss.
She nibbles at a bit of ice cream that's trying to detach itself from her cone. She's chosen tiger tail today, on little more than a whim inspired by the Hallowe'en decorations that have been slowly colonizing the entirety of Gloucester. Ice cream is a rare treat, and maybe she's not exactly working her way through every flavor she runs across, but she isn't exactly not doing that, either.]
I do not recommend it. Even brushing my hair made me want to pass out until they started to mend.
I think I would have cut all my hair off if that was me.
[she says this, but she really doesn't know for sure that she would. wanda, unlike the other members of the avengers, didn't really get involved in direct combat—having the ability to toss about magic from a distance, it is safe to say her ventures in broken bones are very dismissible and unlikely occurrences.
though she can definitely imagine it. now and then natasha or clint had wounds to mend, and though they would easily push through the pain to get a job done, simpler things—such as hair brushing—could really leave them winded and gasping for air.
the usual hazards from their job.]
But I will make sure not to try it out should the opportunity present itself. [with a brimming smile, she turns to look at yelena.] Do you find it a nice change of pace here, then? I imagine it is more relaxing than all these... wild adventures you've told me so far.
[If it had been her choice at the time, she might have done so, and just rocked a pixie cut for a while. But options for even so simple a thing have been limited for much of her life.
She considers the question, head canting slightly to one side.]
It is difficult to really relax here. Not all the time.
[She gestures vaguely around them, as though to signify that she's not really expecting to have to drop everything and fight for their lives right this second.]
But it's...hmm. How to put it? It's more like waiting than like taking a break.
[despite all the things that are happening here, it's like a pocket of time of nothing, just anxiously holding their breath as they plunge into the unknown, waiting for the next big thing and the chance to get dragged home in the same way they were pulled into this one in the first place.
here they are confined, cut off from the freedom of travel and assets to assist them, even held back from using their powers in any significant way (those who have them, anyway).
wanda takes a bit off her ice cream cone and savors the chocolate flavor. licking her lips after a moment, she questions:] What were you up to before showing up here?
