It is definitely like waiting.

[despite all the things that are happening here, it's like a pocket of time of nothing, just anxiously holding their breath as they plunge into the unknown, waiting for the next big thing and the chance to get dragged home in the same way they were pulled into this one in the first place.

here they are confined, cut off from the freedom of travel and assets to assist them, even held back from using their powers in any significant way (those who have them, anyway).
