Summary: Katrina makes rounds to assess the state of her Gloucester home base

• HQ

[ Who's that short-ish young woman walking around the non-restricted parts of HQ, looking at everything like it's hers and she's willing to fight about it? It's Katrina, the angriest mermaid, who has been informed she's been gone for almost a year and now needs to see for herself what's changed.

She ends up in the gym and decides to stay there, training much like she used to. She'll also watch others train, and if there's any advice she can give anyone, she'll go up to them and give it in her usual serious tone. ]

[ More wandering and inspecting. Now and then she'll climb a tall tree, the better to see from.

And then there's when she scales the building by way of apartment balconies, making sure it looks like something a strong, athletic human can do. Totally normal! She just wants to get up to the roof. ]

• memorial room

[ She's here to see if the people she remembers are still here, or at least not dead. When she does find someone she knew, she makes the signs to honor them the way she would for her fellows beneath the waves, and sings a short song of mourning for them. Katrina will not respond while she is singing, but she'll be conversational (for her) after. ]

"No different. My body feel strong, my mind feel clear. I am ready to fight Entities and stop from destroying multiverse."

Would she know it if she were marked? Would the Extinction be pushing her toward eradicating other species if it marked her?

"There is new Raine here. Not the same I meet before. They do not remember this time. Is this happen to others?"

"Yes, that's happened before too." Peter Parker. The Hunter kid, actually. And him, from some other version of the universe than everyone else who knew him back there. "There are different versions of the same place, sometimes, that people come from. So makes sense that sometimes you get the same person more than once."

Tiny, tiny chance, maybe. But given how many people wind up knowing each other, maybe not that tiny.

She nods. At this point, talk of other worlds is as easy to accept as seasonal migrations in the oceans of her home world.

"Winter. This fight against Entities... we will win?"

Or are the odds even worse now than when last she was here?

Winter hesitates. "I don't know," he says. "ADI is working for one of them. The director is an avatar."

"This..." She hisses, unsure of what to say. "Does ADI betray us?"

"She didn't know," Winter explains. "Says she didn't know. I tend to believe her. I didn't know I had a patron for a long time, too." Though he at least had the excuse of not knowing what being a normal person was supposed to be like, or what having an entity felt like. The director had a lot more self-denial going on.

Katrina is quiet for a moment, not frowning, but close to it.

"If she still will fight Entities, she is still ally."

Time will tell, she supposes.

"Winter. I thank you. We will train again together."

He has always been a good training partner.

"I don't work for ADI anymore," Winter says, a little reluctantly. "I couldn't work somewhere that was feeding an entity. Everything ADI does is feeding the Hunt. So. We can't do it there."

Thankfully, he has an option. "We have a little gym in our basement, though. Me and Rogers and Belova. If you'd like to come there sometimes."
