Summary: Katrina makes rounds to assess the state of her Gloucester home base

• HQ

[ Who's that short-ish young woman walking around the non-restricted parts of HQ, looking at everything like it's hers and she's willing to fight about it? It's Katrina, the angriest mermaid, who has been informed she's been gone for almost a year and now needs to see for herself what's changed.

She ends up in the gym and decides to stay there, training much like she used to. She'll also watch others train, and if there's any advice she can give anyone, she'll go up to them and give it in her usual serious tone. ]


• apartments

[ More wandering and inspecting. Now and then she'll climb a tall tree, the better to see from.

And then there's when she scales the building by way of apartment balconies, making sure it looks like something a strong, athletic human can do. Totally normal! She just wants to get up to the roof. ]


• memorial room

[ She's here to see if the people she remembers are still here, or at least not dead. When she does find someone she knew, she makes the signs to honor them the way she would for her fellows beneath the waves, and sings a short song of mourning for them. Katrina will not respond while she is singing, but she'll be conversational (for her) after. ]

(Cortana is no stranger to the gym. She might not be able to develop stronger muscles, but she can always improve her ability to use what she does have.

Today though, that probably won't be happening, because when she sees who else is there she has to stop and stare in shock.)

Katrina?

[ The last time Katrina saw Cortana, a human was accusing her of having been rude and disrespectful in their establishment. Katrina may not be able to say she knows Cortana well, but she knew then and knows now that she would not do those things.

That false Cortana would probably try to fight Katrina, which means that this is the Cortana she's known all this time, the one she spent time teaching her people's language. ]

Cortana. [ She nods, and then signs to her-- ] I have returned here, somehow, after being home for perhaps a minute.

(Cortana blinks, then grins and signs back.) It's been a lot longer than a minute here, unfortunately, but I'm glad to see you again, despite the circumstances. (Because the circumstances are, as always, absolute shit.)

I am glad to be able to fight to save all the worlds that exist. This is the reason I am not angry I have been brought back here.

[ Ignorance is bliss, but she is no longer ignorant. Katrina has a duty now to more than just her people. ]

You train now to use weapon?

(And that brings a sort of sad smile to her face. She's not sure how well they're doing on the whole "saving all the worlds" front. She's not sure if they're going to save anyone, even themselves, in the end.)

Well, we could definitely use your assistance. (She sighs.) We've lost a lot of people.
