(mingle) It must be party time

Who: Ren Amamiya, Wanda Maximoff, you!
When: 12th of September
Where: Good Harbor Beach
Summary: Here's the barbecue log! Eating, playing games, having a bonfire and sleep-over on the beach!
Warnings: Alcohol? Ghost stories?

ɪ. ᴡᴇʟᴄᴏᴍᴇ

Congratulations, you've made it to the Good Harbor Beach September barbecue! With the weather cooling, but still pleasant enough, it's a pleasure to have a hangout involving ADI's residents and those who live at Bonnie's. There are still so many people who don't know one another, and many to strengthen bonds with, so the hours your dearest Wanda and Ren spend cooking and flipping and seasoning are nothing but rewarding! Seeing people enjoying themselves is great and it's motivating for them to keep doing these encounters every now and then.

On the menu, we have:
- Burgers;
- Steaks with jacked potato sides;
- Ribs;
- Zucchini-and-Pecorino fritters;
- Several different salads, including ovcharska;
- Aubergine kebabs with charred onion salsa;
- Salmon yakitori;
- Takoyaki;
- Cupcakes
- Apples and honey;
- Cherry dumplings;
- Sarmale filled with rice;
- Bundevara (pumpkin pie);

For drinks, there's a selection of alcohol, as well as coffee, water, tea, and a variety of sodas. Take in the nice view, jump on the ocean, sink your toes in the sand and enjoy yourselves. There aren't any usable tables, but there are several blankets on the floor for your perusal.

ɪɪ. ᴛɪᴍᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴘᴀʀᴛʏ

With bellies full, now it's when the real fun begins. There are a few decks of cards being passed around, as well as one of their single tables now organized to a beer-pong competition. Individually, games such as Never Have I Ever, as well as Truth or Dare can be seen, and those who wish to use their skills for entertaining are more than welcome to do so.

A little bonding here, a little drunken chatting there, this is your time to shine!

ɪɪɪ. ᴀ ʙᴏɴꜰɪʀᴇ

With those who have a curfew to worry about in mind, a bonfire is lit, and a few tents are set around the beach (may have to be shared). If anyone's got a nice story, now it's the time to share it, or perhaps if anyone can play an instrument, it's about time to break it out of its case. The night will be lively until the early hours of the morning, and of course, mindful of those who couldn't stay up this late.

The next morning, everyone will be properly thanked for their attendance and tupperwares will be distributed with leftovers for those who'd like to take some food home, the beach will be cleaned impeccably and everyone will go their own way, hopefully with smiles and a new sense of unity and connection from the amazing night they've just experienced.

Yelena Belova | MCU | OTA - threadjacking OK

[personal profile] musicdied 2021-09-11 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I.
Yelena's approach to the meal is best described as eclectic - rather than going for a lot of any one thing, she opts to take a little bit of many things, to no particular theme. Much of it looks delicious, and that's the only excuse she needs to sample liberally. Once she's loaded her plate and snagged a drink, she stakes out a corner of one of the blankets, and will wave over anyone who looks like they're having trouble deciding where to sit, whether she knows them or not, with an amiable, "There's room here!"

(She recognizes many of the faces, at least, even if she's not been formally introduced. She paid close attention during the briefings. As one does.)

II.
After dinner, she wanders down to the waterline, strips off her shoes and socks, rolls up the legs of her pants, and wades out into the water up to her knees to stare out at sparkle of the lowering sun off the water near the horizon.

"Well," she says eventually. "Now I am regretting not bringing a swimsuit."

III.
Mostly, Yelena sticks to card games. She's good at blackjack, and better at poker - if she has a tell, this one evening isn't enough to read it - but while she's not familiar with many of the other games people might be inclined to play, she's a quick study, and enthusiasting about adding to her repertoire.

(She does know 52 pickup. That trick won't work.)

Later in the evening, though, she allows herself to be drawn into a game of Truth or Dare, which might be cheating just a little when she has no problem lying if there's a question she'd prefer not to answer. But this time, when her turn comes around, she chooses, "Dare."

IV.
Yelena lingers around the bonfire late into the night, listening to the songs and stories, chatting quietly to her neighbours. Occasionally, she shares a story of her own. They're mostly of a fairytale bent: evil wizards, errant knights, girls who have had their hearts replaced with shards of mirrored glass. People begin to drift away, seeking the tents or their lodgings, and she stays, lapsing into silence as the fire burns down.

Eventually, she rises, offering a brief smile to anyone who's still awake - not many, by this point, almost none. She doesn't head for the tents, however, but away down the beach, strolling down along the waterline.

Should anyone else chance to wander off, they might cross her path, or find her sitting in the sand just above the high tide point, one knee tucked up to her chest, staring out across the dark water.

III - threadjacking okay

[personal profile] bossyboiler 2021-09-12 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Kate isn't quite drunk but she sure the fuck is tipsy which is why she starts to laugh when Yelena says dare. She is a friendly drunk and Yelena's new bestie according to Kate. (Yelena doesn't get a say in it.)

"Okay. Okay. Okay." She smiles. "I dare you..." Pause. "To find Winter..." Another pause because what had she been about to say? Oh, that's right. "To find winter and ask his permission to give him a hug. A hig bug though, I mean no big hug." She sighs, frustrated with the fact that her tongue and mouth isn't cooperating. "I mean, bear squeeze. HUG! Bear hug! Yes." She applauds herself the victory of saying it correctly even though it hadn't been said correctly at all.

"Yes. Go find, Winter. Ask his permission to hug him and then give him the biggest bear hug ever." Kate laughs because it is the funniest thing she can think of. "You can do it." She reaches over to pat Yelena on the shoulder, misses and almost falls over, again.

The Narration takes back it's previous statement that Kate isn't drunk. She is.

Because Kate is a friendly drunk, Yelena has perhaps not been paying quite as much attention to how much her roommate has been drinking. They're both big girls, perfectly capable of making their own choices, and the crowd is small enough that it's possible to keep an eye on anyone who looks like they might be trouble.

It's just that if she had been paying more attention, she wouldn't have put herself in this situation. Not after the open speculation about her past with Winter.

Fortunately, there is a convenient, if temporary, excuse to stall at hand. She reaches out to steady Kate when she nearly topples, and clicks her tongue mock-chidingly. "You are very drunk."

Well. Winter is at least not hard to find. He is, at current, making his regular prowl around the little camp, being between card games and not yet captured by anyone singing a song or telling a story. He'll be there when the ladies decide whether they're doing the thing.

"I am very drunk, Yelena." She replies upon being steadied. "It's a very new to me. I think I like it." She feels free! And nice. Kate feels like she should get up and go frolicking. What is frolicking exactly? She doesn't know but she thinks she can figure it out.

"It's okay. I know you two didin..." A pause. What is the matter with her mouth. Why won't it cooperate with her? "Did not. Didn't date. He corrected me. Shhh. It's okay. It's okay I don't know who else you know." Because Winter had been the first person she had thought of. They had him in common! It's not malicious.

"You don't have to do it." She pats Yelena on the shoulder again, this time she manages not to topple or miss. "I can think of something else." A pause because she suddenly has the feeling that Yelena doubts her, "Well, I can."

“You will like it less in the morning. But that’s a problem for tomorrow’s Kate.” At least, from the looks of things, she won’t be entirely alone in her hangover.

She swallows back something that feels caught between a laugh and a sigh, glancing towards where Winter prowls along the perimeter. She doesn’t have to search to find him, and with all explanatory context stripped, it’s not hard to see why someone whose familiarity with either of them is most easily measured in weeks might mistake that as a sign of intimacy.

“I will ask him if he would like a hug,” she says. “Remember your something else for the next round.”

And then she rises, and lopes towards the unsuspecting target of this piece of silliness.

He notes her coming but doesn't change direction or stop. What he does do is slow a little and look sidelong at her, possibly in the hopes that she comes bearing brownies again. Doesn't look like it. Too bad.

"It seems. That Kate is very drunk," he comments, proving that while she had been aware of him, he has also been aware of her. And of Kate.

It is a problem for tomorrow's Kate. Right now, present Kate is having a good time. "I will!" Kate agrees with Yelena, happily. She is going to regret it before the morning arrives.

"Oh. I will." Kate's response is very earnest. "I have such a good one for the next round." She nods her head. Good is subjective. It is either the corniest thing Yelena has ever heard in her life while also being incredibly bland.

"Yes. You have to ask permission." She sounds like a child. "It's important." And then she laughs, "He's going to be so surprised."

She's not going to move from her seated position to get a better view. The Earth is spinning and she swears she can feel the rotation. Kate doesn't want to slip away.

Yelena isn’t surprised by his statement - in truth, she would have been more surprised if he hadn’t noticed, hadn’t been keeping track.

“She is ridiculously drunk,” she agrees, glancing back over her shoulder at their roommate with an expression of mild concern. “I don’t think she has very much experience with it. I’ll bring her water when I return.”

She looks back at Winter, hesitates a moment, then sighs. “She is also thinking you might want a hug. Do you want a hug? Unless you do, you don’t have to answer.”

He's already considering the possibility of having to carry Kate home, if they even go home tonight. The tents and the hour suggest that getting home before curfew isn't expected.

The question takes him by surprise. There's a nearly audible record scratch as it throws his thoughts off track. "What. Why would I want a. A hug." He can't even imagine that. The last time someone tried, he nearly threw the poor thing into a tree.

If they look back at Kate, they'll find her waving at them like a lunatic.

Yelena does glance back, and lifts her hand in a wave that's rather less...frantic.

"You wouldn't," she says, turning her gaze back to Winter. "I think maybe Kate does, and is pushing that out onto you. And me. And the very silly game we are playing." She gives an apologetic shrug, the corners of her mouth quirking in a lopsided little smile. "I should get back to her before she has a chance to get herself into trouble."

He looks between the enthusiastic waving and Yelena, for a moment. Gears turning in his head. "Perhaps you should hug her, then," he finally suggests, perfectly straight-faced. Maybe... a little too straight-faced. (There is a tiny glimmer of a sense of humor in there, apparently, it's just hard to see.)

Kate has gone from waving like a lunatic to roasting a marshmallow. She has a stick stuck in the bonfire but leaves it in for too long. When she pulls it out, the marshmallow is a roasted cinder. Instead of waiting for the marshmallow to cool down Kate turns and flings the miniature fireball away and into the sand. Yeet!

She squints at him for a moment, then grins, swift and sun-bright. "That would only encourage her."

She turns to head back towards Kate and the bonfire. Hopefully, the water she pauses to snag on the way back will not be required for dousing makeshift incendiaries.

"It might. Though that is not always a bad thing."

He considers a beat as she turns, then moves to follow. He'd just about finished the latest patrol, anyway, and he wants to-- he should check on Kate. And see what this game is they're playing.

"Hi guys!" Kate says brightly with another marshmallow molotov on a skewer. In their approach, she has forgotten about it. It's burning itself out but so far she hasn't flung it. "Yelena where did you go?" They are in the clear. Kate has forgotten what had caused Yelena to get up and find Winter.

"I have marshmallows," she says and pointy sticks that could definitely put someone's eye out.
