The haunted evolution game was provided by a donor who wanted to remain anonymous. The museum's administrative records identified the company donating the software as Top Education.

This isn't a name I've come across before, but it's worth looking into what else they provide, and where.

Even then, it's not the people making the software who are influential. The person underwriting them, sometimes.

It is a lot to chase down, but less the more people who are working on it. And we might not be able to stop the next time, but that will also give us data points.

Necessary sacrifices? I haven't worked with someone who didn't mean that in the worst ways in quite some time. Not that I disagree it has its place. I would offer my help, where I can, with the understanding that the year was the mid 1920s when last I knew it. My ability to navigate a computer is likely comical.

Necessary acceptance of the fact that we will fail people. Sometimes we won't be fast enough, or won't be strong enough, or will make the wrong call. Pretending this isn't true helps no one, but we can at least learn from our failures, and from the carnage the nightmares leave behind.

There will be a lot of very boring digging through data that doesn't really need much skill with technology.

I would say I generally agree with you. I've simply had some idealistic people in my life as of late.

Tedium is how you get anywhere, I'm afraid, and someone has to do it. All the more reason to make something like a saloon available for those here, I think. Atmosphere can improve any task.
