Summary: The wake for George Milton.

If anyone of the forcibly kidnapped to Gloucester deserved to be remembered, it was George Milton. In many ways, he was the best of them. He had been kind. He had always been willing to help and lend a hand. Unlike some whose first choice was violence (because what else was there), he had chosen to forgo that route and had come up with a much more clever solution. The solution saved lives.

It had not felt right to have a formal service for him. To put it simply, he was not a formal person. And so after much calling around, a bar had been found where they could rent out the entire place before business got too busy. It was just for a couple of hours. People could come and say nice things about George. It's what he deserved after all.

So come on in, have a beer or two, and sit a spell. Maybe you'll feel like sharing a story about George or maybe you're just there to pay your respects. There's a break in the weather, the clouds only filling up half of the nighttime sky. No acid snow for tonight.

"Then maybe you should hang out with me a bit more often. I'd toughen you up then you won't need to worry about the rent."

"Oi, fuck you," Hickey laughs. Granted, it's a teasing laugh. He knows that Manji is giving him shit and he'll give him shit back in return. "I'm tough enough as is! It's just a different sort of toughness than what you're used to."

It's always good to find someone who can handle a bit of teasing. Manji gives a lopsided smile. "Maybe, but if you really want to get out from under ADI's thumb? My offer is always open when you're done being a wuss."

"I can get out of their thumb on my own time," Hickey shrugs, shaking his head, small smirk of a smile still on his face. "And in my own way."

"I look forward to when you're ready to try. Be sure to let me know how that goes."

"Swimmingly, that's how," grins the man who has far too much confidence in himself and in his own ideas.

"I've been here for over half a year now. I can handle whatever this place throws at me."

"We shall see." Manji likes that confidence and isn't about to knock it back. "Just make sure I don't have to go to your wake, alright? I've already had enough of these things."

"If I die, don't even have a wake for me," Hickey points out, with a shake of his head. "Just get a pint and call it a day."

"Done. And if I die - then fucking celebrate. Throw a huge ass party. Singing, dancing, and plenty of whores to go around."

"I'll probably have to ship the whores in from out of state," he laughs. "Any from the area are probably sensible enough to not go near ADI and our nonsense."

"Come on, tel the truth. It's because there would be so many who would be thrilled to come to a party honoring me."

"And we'd have to have a few who would actually do their job while the rest of them mourn."

"Don't worry about that. If things go the way they should, people should be rejoicing I'm gone. Finally that old grump is out of our hair." He smirks as he claims this. Apparently he doesn't see it as a problem that he doesn't have too many friends.

"Fuck that," Hickey laughs. He also doesn't see it as a problem that he doesn't have too many friends. But even with that, there's a part of him that wonders if he could consider Manji a friend. The man's the right sort of abrasive that Hickey enjoys.

"I know I'd be pissed. I'd lose one of the few people who are good to bitch with!"

That makes Manji smirk with pride. "That would be a crime. Too many goody toe shoes in this city. Us jackasses need to stick together so I'll do my best not to kick it without a good fight."

"Likewise," he nods, grin on his face as he does so. "I'm not going to be one of those people who just randomly vanishes or dies without any say so."

"Hey." That's a bit too far for Manji. He knows he was egging Hickey on so he's not too upset, but he uses his more serious tone to let the other man know that he wasn't really to go further. "George and Garner didn't die without any say so. I know they were the type to go down swinging."

Hickey raises an eyebrow before dryly pointing out, "Of course they went down swinging. But that doesn't change the fact that they went down in the first place."

"They did. No shame in going down fighting." He's sure they did.

Hickey's not so sure. After all, it's not like either of them saw them die. Still, he's smart enough not to mention that at a funeral. Instead, he looks at Manji before pointing out,

"If you go down, make sure you go down just the same way."

"That's the only option I got. I'm immortal. Can't die the boring, old fashion way."

Well that gets Hickey's interest. He perks up as he looks over to Manji to ask, "Now how'd you manage that?"

"Pissed off the wrong old hag who gave me cursed holy worms that keep putting me back together rather than letting me die."

Hickey winces, shaking his head before, "Sucks to be you, I suppose. Being immortal doesn't sound bad. The worms part? Less ideal."

"Most would think that who don't have to deal with it. There is still lots of pain. The worms don't stop shit from hurting like hell. But, yeah, I suppose if you enjoy watching those you care about growing old and dying without you? Go ahead. Knock yourself out. I'm sure after the first couple hundred years you'll learn better and by then it will be too late."
