Dogtown Emergency Service - Open Network - Video

Who: John Carter
Username: Carter
Warnings: None so far; potential discussion of Dogtown related injuries and happenings, will warn accordingly in the threads

[The video starts... awkwardly. The angle is slightly off at first and when Carter wants to begin, the phone falls over. There's some fumbling, blurry images, noisy mic sounds, but he actually manages to salvage this a few seconds in. It's not a disaster, just... off. The slightly clumsy handling of someone who learned about a new technology later in life and has only been using it for a couple of months.

Also, not enough to warrant editing this out, sorry, he's lazy and probably doesn't know how to do it.]

Uh, good morning. Sorry about that?

For those of you who don't know me, my name is John Carter. I'm an emergency doctor and I work in medical. I'm looking for volunteers.

I'm worried about the Dogtown situation. We've had several people on here warnings us of invisible bullets, madness inducing birds, blood river monsters... and who knows what else is waiting for us in there.

[A sigh. He looks worried.]

Thing is, I've treated several people now who got hurt. Really hurt. Now, it's never been an inviting place, I know that, but I don't think it's ever been this bad. And I don't think people are gonna stop exploring anytime soon, so...

I want to set up two mobile clinics outside the entrances so those of you who go in there have quick access to medical supplies and treatment if things go wrong. I already talked to ADI and they're willing the fund the bill. If people want to help out, that'd be great.

And if you head out there, be careful.

Maybe if it was just a temporary visit. The cultural landscape and linguistic shifts alone would be fascinating, to say nothing of the technology.

Though if the last century's been any indication, I'd give the world good odds of regressing on that front in the next millennium after someone does something spectacularly stupid.

Empires rise and fall, often in part due to terrible governance. It's part of the normal lifecycle. As interconnected as everything is, especially now, that's going to have a massive ripple effect.

It's a pity there's no real way of knowing just how strongly the Entities have been involved in previous catastrophic events on this world - there are some differences that stand out, but much of the history here is very similar to the history of my world, at least in the broad strokes that make it into the records.

I think it's likely they exist in other worlds - not necessarily all of them, but some. But it doesn't follow that they're as strong elsewhere as they are here.

The fact that we have so many people here with inborn supernatural abilities, who've outright stated that they never had to bind themselves to anything or terrorize people in order to use those abilities is enough on its own to suggest that the Entities certainly aren't the dominant power everywhere.
