Dogtown Emergency Service - Open Network - Video

Who: John Carter
Username: Carter
Warnings: None so far; potential discussion of Dogtown related injuries and happenings, will warn accordingly in the threads

[The video starts... awkwardly. The angle is slightly off at first and when Carter wants to begin, the phone falls over. There's some fumbling, blurry images, noisy mic sounds, but he actually manages to salvage this a few seconds in. It's not a disaster, just... off. The slightly clumsy handling of someone who learned about a new technology later in life and has only been using it for a couple of months.

Also, not enough to warrant editing this out, sorry, he's lazy and probably doesn't know how to do it.]

Uh, good morning. Sorry about that?

For those of you who don't know me, my name is John Carter. I'm an emergency doctor and I work in medical. I'm looking for volunteers.

I'm worried about the Dogtown situation. We've had several people on here warnings us of invisible bullets, madness inducing birds, blood river monsters... and who knows what else is waiting for us in there.

[A sigh. He looks worried.]

Thing is, I've treated several people now who got hurt. Really hurt. Now, it's never been an inviting place, I know that, but I don't think it's ever been this bad. And I don't think people are gonna stop exploring anytime soon, so...

I want to set up two mobile clinics outside the entrances so those of you who go in there have quick access to medical supplies and treatment if things go wrong. I already talked to ADI and they're willing the fund the bill. If people want to help out, that'd be great.

And if you head out there, be careful.

There are still plenty of surprises, but a lot of things are similar. Strange places, monstrous creatures, dangerous artifacts, cultists. And the approach is often the same in any case: Keeping yourself trained and ready physically, observing and researching each case and gathering information, working with others to cover all your possibilities.

There are a lot of different paranormal forces in my world. Some of them are similar to the Entities here, yes. Creatures from "outside" the known world, that feed on corruption and chaos. We call them Horrors, Outsiders, or Demons. I've encountered my world's version of Avatars in the past, as well.

The Entities here are stronger and more organized, though. They exert a much greater influence. I'm still getting used to the idea, honestly, even after a year here.

Agreed. "Horrors" is very direct and accurate, there's no hedging there.

The best advice I can give, I think, is to learn from what's already happened, and be prepared for any kind of emergency. Which isn't always easy, but at least you can focus on the essentials. Medical supplies, food and water, gear for weather extremes...the universal things that are always useful, the things we *can* deal with.

It's not everything, but it helps.

[Jaeger has been living this way for a while, now. He thinks he's getting better at it, the product of a practical and analytical mind.

Certainly, it helps to focus on one's strengths and where they can be best put to use. Better than flailing helplessly, if nothing else.

He has to think a moment before he speaks about his own well-being, but he does, after a second. Honest, but not *too* honest. He's still processing a lot of things anyway, things that aren't quite ready to surface.]

Some days are harder than others, but the structure and routine are familiar and that helps. I've always been very...work-oriented.

In some ways it's been some big changes, though. I'm still working on those as I go. Getting used to working with people again, being situated in one static place instead of moving constantly.

It's something to have some confidence about, something you know you can do well. And it provides structure, routine...all important things to keeping steady when so much is unpredictable.

[He actually has both a degree and a lifetime of experience with this, he feels pretty good about this advice.]

I was mostly on my own before this, yes. I worked for a long time as part of a company, but things ended...badly, and I ended up working independently with only the occasional contact.

It's been a change, being here. It still feels strange at times, waking up in the same bed for months now.
