► LIBRARY
( hearing that there was a library was a good thing. she hoped. the vague information that quill had been given so far sounded both bullshit and just another tuesday but that seemed to sum up her existence now. which made information more important.► CANTEEN
and she could handle a computer. granted, she didn't know exactly what she was searching for but she'd uncovered interesting (and disturbing) things on less before.
except after her first couple of searches, clicks and maybe a bit of a rabbit hole she'd ended up on ancestry. it wasn't what she'd been searching for, didn't have a relation to what she'd initially googled. and actually was more confusing than anything )
How's this supposed to help anyone?
( and why would anyone want it to? family history? endless searching that probably wasn't relevant or related? sounded awful )
( the last time she'd come over for coffee she'd ended up distracted by something else and hadn't actually found the coffee. this time she was beginning her search again, poking at what was nearby and generally missing the coffee machine that's probably right next to her.► FLOOR B3
it's not entirely her fault, she's not familiar with one and is used to making it herself. which is probably why there's some irritated muttering as she keeps looking because how is it so hard to find something.
clueing her in is probably as risky as it is helpful. good luck )
( considering that quill can't actually use any of the weapons available you'd think it'd be torturous for her to look. it is, a little at least but what soldier would she be if she wasn't at least a little informed about the defensive capabilities of what was here.
besides, she can still hold them to see how they'd work even if that's all she can do.
though she happens to come down when someone's getting training -- of knives of all things. it's interesting to watch, sad in some ways and-- the last throw might have hit painful )
The balance is wrong.
( of the knife. did they know she was there? whatever. she's observed enough and at least what's happening isn't entirely the trainee's fault )
Probably badly made or kept. It makes the landing harder.

[ He already feels daft for offering. It's not like he knows where anything is in here—he's barely even been in this room. But, despite her apparent irritability, the woman hasn't outright refused his help. He may as well try to follow through. ]
Just thought two pairs of eyes might be better than one.

so she takes a breath and releases it with a sigh )
I'm looking for coffee.

Well... the machine's there, [ he says, nodding towards it. ] Is it empty?
[ He's guessing it probably is, given the woman's continued search. ]
no subject
That?
( look, she's a simple alien who's used to a kettle, hot water and making it (badly) herself )
How's that... it?

It's pretty basic, [ he agrees. ] But it should get the job done.
[ He walks over to take a closer look. There are only a few presets and the UI is old-fashioned, but it's not rocket science. The top of the machine flips open with a click when he presses it. ] Looks like there's already some grounds inside, [ he observes, before glancing back at the woman. ] How do you take your coffee? Should be able to get this thing to spit it out...

( and then slightly defensive: )
I never figured there was a point in learning that.

[ He digs around in some nearby cabinets until he finds a clean-looking mug and places it under the spout of the machine. A few button presses after that and the relic whirs to life. ]
Guess there's not much if you usually take it black, [ Ade says with a shrug. ] This one's not bad for 21st-century tech, though.

( like she isn't. though coffee was an earth first )
A different time?
no subject
Yeah. About 350 years in the future.
[ He shrugs. ]
Coffee-makers haven't changed that much, though...

( she'd not tried thinking too much about the time of her planet and earth considering the technology differences were already enough. had the doctor taken her through time to something he'd thought was comparable to her planet or was it the same time?
it was a headache. earth was enough of one )
Technology changes quickly.

[ C'nataat has long since evicted Ade's bioscreen from his body and the bloody thing had been as much of a nuisance as it had been a boon anyway. He doesn't regret that he doesn't have access to one anymore. ]
Weather's nicer here though. And there's a lot more space.
[ Both are massive understatements. In his time, Earth had been on the brink of environmental collapse, so much so that some populations had retreated almost entirely underground to escape the scorching heat. Ade'd never visited this part of the Americas in his own time so he can't do a direct comparison, but he'd wager it's magnitudes more pleasant this time of year than in 2376. ]
What about you? When are you from?
no subject
( so something closer to this which is why most of the technology doesn't phase her. only the things that she'd never before used on earth, things that her planet didn't have something comparable of )
It's a similar Earth. Mostly.
