► LOG

Who: andrea quill + you
When: through april
Where: various adi locations
Summary: getting bearings, snooping, probably offending some people
Warnings: will update with!

► LIBRARY
( hearing that there was a library was a good thing. she hoped. the vague information that quill had been given so far sounded both bullshit and just another tuesday but that seemed to sum up her existence now. which made information more important.

and she could handle a computer. granted, she didn't know exactly what she was searching for but she'd uncovered interesting (and disturbing) things on less before.

except after her first couple of searches, clicks and maybe a bit of a rabbit hole she'd ended up on ancestry. it wasn't what she'd been searching for, didn't have a relation to what she'd initially googled. and actually was more confusing than anything )

How's this supposed to help anyone?

( and why would anyone want it to? family history? endless searching that probably wasn't relevant or related? sounded awful )
► CANTEEN
( the last time she'd come over for coffee she'd ended up distracted by something else and hadn't actually found the coffee. this time she was beginning her search again, poking at what was nearby and generally missing the coffee machine that's probably right next to her.

it's not entirely her fault, she's not familiar with one and is used to making it herself. which is probably why there's some irritated muttering as she keeps looking because how is it so hard to find something.

clueing her in is probably as risky as it is helpful. good luck )
► FLOOR B3
( considering that quill can't actually use any of the weapons available you'd think it'd be torturous for her to look. it is, a little at least but what soldier would she be if she wasn't at least a little informed about the defensive capabilities of what was here.

besides, she can still hold them to see how they'd work even if that's all she can do.

though she happens to come down when someone's getting training -- of knives of all things. it's interesting to watch, sad in some ways and-- the last throw might have hit painful )

The balance is wrong.

( of the knife. did they know she was there? whatever. she's observed enough and at least what's happening isn't entirely the trainee's fault )

Probably badly made or kept. It makes the landing harder.

[ It's Ade's first week in this strange new world and he's still acquainting himself with the facilities. It's strange being on Earth—or at least a version of it—again. Maybe it's his new wess'har genetics or just the time he'd spent living among them, but as he walks through the smartly furnished office building, he can't help a mild sense of embarrassment at how extravagant it all is. The clutter of stylish furnishings, the glaring fluorescent lights, the constant hum of A/C—it all stands at stark contrast to the almost-Spartan simplicity of F'nar.

He enters the canteen, strolling in with the practiced nothing-to-see-here nonchalance he tends to adopt around strangers. This is the breakroom, after all, and he expects to run into others here. But as he comes more fully inside, he realizes the only other person in the room is a woman, currently muttering irritably to herself as she searches around the kitchenette area.

Initially, Ade intends to leave her to it and continue on with his own personal explorations. He pokes around the room, taking note of the various appliances and hot meals on offer. When he's done, he turns to take his leave—except, in those minutes, the woman has apparently made no progress on finding whatever it is she's looking for.

He hesitates, knowing it's not any of his business and yet feeling some sympathy as another newcomer to this place. After a moment more of vacilation, he speaks up. ]

Uh... Do you need some help over there?

He's been coming in here for weeks, and he's not getting any better.

[Comments Callisto, who is here neither to train nor be trained today, but rather here for similar reasons to Quill: she likes to scope things out. She's been in Gloucester for months and has weapons of her own, so she doesn't need to borrow any, but weaponry and training areas are still the most familiar parts of the city. Sometimes she drops by to hone her skills either alone or with others, but even more often, she shows up just to spectate.

And make rude comments. Like you do.]

If he's ever thrown into battle, he'll probably die quickly.

Oh, people are really into this stuff!

[Says Misty, leaning over Quill's shoulder to get a look at her screen.]

I mean, not me personally, I really couldn't care less, but god, with some people it's an obsession.

[She sets her own book pile down on the the table. It's a macabre collection of grisly true crime reportage and books about cult psychology: the former for personal reading, and the latter to help fill in the gaps of her own knowledge for work purposes ("work purposes", in this case, being the top-secret assassination plot she's taking part in, and the fake cult they'll be using as a scapegoat). ]

But you're probably not going to find anything about your own family here, haha. What are you looking for? I could help.

If there will be, they're taking their sweet time about it.

[Callisto says, wrinkling her nose.]

But that's how it always is with things like this. The end of the world is always talked about, but it never actually happens.

[The magic words. Quill now has all of Misty's attention and then some; she elbows her book pile aside, leaning in closer to the screen.]

Do you have a name? Did you take pictures of the scene? Where did you find it? Do you think it's still there, or...?
myfavoritemurder: (I'm coming over to punch you in the face)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-04-18 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's like that with personal world-endings, too.

[Her eyes flick back to the trainee, and her scowl deepens.]

She's not hurting him enough. If she really wants to give him incentive, she needs to make him feel like he's in danger of death, even if he really isn't.

Oh, yeah, I saw a couple of those. Out in the park, right? Crazy stuff.

[Misty shivers a little at the memory that she herself had relived - but there's a strong note of excitement in there, too. It had been awful and a little terrifying, but at the same time, it had been exhilarating, and she's pretty sure she'd be game to experience it again.]

Did you get the memory?

At first. And then he'd learn to overcome his panic. I'm speaking from personal experience.

With a car? Did whoever see it get a plate number?

[It's an obvious thing to look for and remember, as far as she's concerned, but not everybody has her Citizen DetectiveTM training.]
myfavoritemurder: (this is some demented hilarity)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-04-18 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[She laughs humorlessly, shaking her head.]

Oh, darling, they don't want me training their new recruits. He wouldn't just feel like he'd be in danger of death, he'd be lifeless on the floor already.

[Callisto really does not know how to hold back.]

[personal profile] citizendetective 2022-04-18 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sigh. Civilians.]

Why do you say that? Or, wait--

[The ancestry website.]

It's a cold case. Or, I mean, an old crime that the police have given up on? Something from a really long time ago?
myfavoritemurder: (my bloodlust is carrying me through)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-04-18 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh. Well.

Without any further preamble, Callisto pulls her dagger out of its sheath, twirls it in her hand, and then sends it flying for the target - the same target that the trainee and his trainer are working on. Both turn to give her dirty looks.

She wiggles her fingers at them in a sarcastic little wave.]

Oh, I love cold cases. Okay, so, first of all, you don't want an ancestry site, you want old newspapers. Based on the circumstances I'm guessing you don't know her name, so-- mind scooting over a little?

[She's going to try to take control of the mouse, if she can.]
