( hearing that there was a library was a good thing. she hoped. the vague information that quill had been given so far sounded both bullshit and just another tuesday but that seemed to sum up her existence now. which made information more important.► CANTEEN
and she could handle a computer. granted, she didn't know exactly what she was searching for but she'd uncovered interesting (and disturbing) things on less before.
except after her first couple of searches, clicks and maybe a bit of a rabbit hole she'd ended up on ancestry. it wasn't what she'd been searching for, didn't have a relation to what she'd initially googled. and actually was more confusing than anything )
How's this supposed to help anyone?
( and why would anyone want it to? family history? endless searching that probably wasn't relevant or related? sounded awful )
( the last time she'd come over for coffee she'd ended up distracted by something else and hadn't actually found the coffee. this time she was beginning her search again, poking at what was nearby and generally missing the coffee machine that's probably right next to her.► FLOOR B3
it's not entirely her fault, she's not familiar with one and is used to making it herself. which is probably why there's some irritated muttering as she keeps looking because how is it so hard to find something.
clueing her in is probably as risky as it is helpful. good luck )
( considering that quill can't actually use any of the weapons available you'd think it'd be torturous for her to look. it is, a little at least but what soldier would she be if she wasn't at least a little informed about the defensive capabilities of what was here.
besides, she can still hold them to see how they'd work even if that's all she can do.
though she happens to come down when someone's getting training -- of knives of all things. it's interesting to watch, sad in some ways and-- the last throw might have hit painful )
The balance is wrong.
( of the knife. did they know she was there? whatever. she's observed enough and at least what's happening isn't entirely the trainee's fault )
Probably badly made or kept. It makes the landing harder.

( c'mon, she's gotta see it more than once to even be slightly improved.
though it was a good throw )

[Says Callisto, walking directly in the path of the trainee as she goes to recover the knife. The trainer huffs; she's clearly about .05 seconds away from kicking them out entirely, but Callisto remains unbothered.]
Sometimes I send them into people's throats instead.
no subject
however she doesn't throw it at the same target. even knowing ger skill, knowing she'd never accidentally hit them, she doesn't trust the arn to not take offence anyway and opts to throw it at the other target in the room.
it's less showy than callisto but it's a good land.
not that it makes the trainer any happier, not with how she yells to kick them out )
Some people will never learn.

And when they're summarily kicked out of the room, she goes without resistance, mockingly blowing a kiss at the trainer on her way out the door.]
Oh, well; that was fun.
[She says, turning to study Quill once they're out in the hallway.]
What else can you do?
no subject
most might not come from a knife but it's one sure fire way to do it )
I'm a soldier.
( oh very casual. a fact.
and then, more of a smile on her )
Why, you trying to test more skills?
no subject
[Soldier, warrior - same thing, in her book.]

You'd think for what they claim there would be.

no subject
( funnily enough she's both done it and has trained )
Doesn't make everyone right for it.

[Ask her how she knows, Quill.]
That man was only useless because he hasn't been forced not to be yet.
no subject
( and even in her war, even in desperate circumstances she wouldn't have picked that man )
Some people aren't worth the effort to train. You can force them but they'd break, they wouldn't work.

[She gestures to herself: the sword, the dagger in her belt, the ridiculous armor.]
I started out a scared, sniveling peasant girl who quaked at the idea of holding a sword. I was worse than him - a thousand times worse. I wasn't born like this. I was made.
no subject
( some born. her people were born for it but it didn't mean everyone ended up a soldier )
You were worth training. He's not.
( quaking at the idea of holding a sword is nothing )
no subject
[Normal people don't think that about eleven-year-olds, Callisto.]
