All this science, I don't understand (Open)

Who: Senku Ishigami and everyone!
When: April
Where: Various: Apartment, ADI, the park...
Summary: An opportunity to meet the illustrious scientist in the context of one's choosing.
Warnings: Potential for altered perceptions, apocalypse. Will update if necessary.

I. A New Apartment

The whole experience thus far has been completely curious and unusual. Fortunately, Senku was not the type to put up a fuss, but rather someone who could roll and adapt to unusual situations, while trying to gather as much information as possible.

He’d been given the necessary tours and brought to this apartment and finally left to his own devices. Senku was wearing slacks, a button down with a tie, a labcoat and dress shoes but most notably, he had a tattered cape tied around his shoulders. He removed his shoes upon entry and walked further into the place. “Bigger than I would’ve thought...maybe not.” He murmured.

Senku wasn’t put off by a roommate situation inherently but as he wandered a stranger in this place there were multiple rooms. That was a bit novel. “Heh. Guess I don’t have to share a bed.”

II. Equipment/Information Technology

He’d been told he could work in two places if he wanted to, so that’s how Senku agreed to structure his day, if only because he didn’t want to find himself getting bored. He appreciated getting to work with his hands, and hoped at least they’d be looking for innovation.

However, heaven help the person who got Senku as the local IT tech who had to give tech support.

III. The Flowers Came Early

That was a lot of flowers.

Senku couldn’t say for sure how unusual they may be, but typically flowers didn’t appear like that in parks. Not without someone planning them to be that way and who would plant so many?

Did it really count as paranormal? Of course if this was the best this world could offer to paranormal, he would keep on believing that it likely didn’t exist, not without proper explanation.

“Something about these flowers seem kind of weird.” He commented a little bit. “Maybe we should check them out.”

Was this really going to be worth $100?

IV. CTRL + ALT + DEL

Even though he’d been accepted to the IT department, as a new arrival Senku has not had the opportunity to really distinguish himself.

He could not look any more bored if he tried. He was slouched in his seat like a teenager who was forced to attend a class they hated, which he definitely was not. There was nothing of interest about learning how to create a password. He knew that already. He knew how to crack into some serious hardware with government-level security and he’d accomplished this as a child.

“Ugh.” Senku groaned, he couldn’t help it. “This is such bullshit.”

Unfortunately for the trainer, if anything his education taught him, he was not going to get less disruptive.

V. Spring Festival

Out of force of habit, Senku made an appearance. Over the years he’d been compelled to show up to light events like this and now it was an ingrained habit. He didn’t hold the same position in this unusual world, but habits were hard to break.

He was far more interested in browsing the food stalls and getting a drink. He wouldn’t be playing any games, but checking out the crafters was also an option.

In the early evening, he found himself mildly distracted by an okay stage magician. He scoffed. “I’m almost sorry I called him a hack.” He declared out of nowhere, that might have been a bit strange.

Although he’d changed into more casual clothing thanks to the light shopping trip, cargo pants and t-shirt like he was some kind of college student instead of an esteemed scientist, he never removed the tattered cape. It likely made him look a bit...eccentric.

"I'm sure he's been called a hack before," comes a voice from just behind Senku's shoulder. Malcolm glances at his cape. "Are you a magician too?"

"One on the end is mine." A gruff voice says from behind. Manji is just coming home with a fishing pole in hand and a damp bag slung over his shoulder. He cuts an imposing figure. With three scars running across his face, wearing a black and white kimono, and clearly missing both an eye and an arm.

Setting the pole down in the corner he sets the damp bag near a cutting board. "Sorry, didn't know we were getting a new guy. Not sure I caught enough. We'll see." He continues, pulling out a fish and picking up a kitchen knife. "I'm Manji." With an ease that shows his confidence and comfort with a knife in his hand he begins to clean the fish. Cutting out quick and effortless fillets from the first fish.

“A scientist? You must work for the ADI. What’s your field?” Malcolm asks.

As oddities go, the flowers, at a glance, seem fairly benign. Yelena's long since learned that when it comes to Dogtown, such appearances should never be trusted - harmless facades hiding something far more sinister are at least as common as overt malice.

She checks her phone, making a note of the coordinates of the oddly-rectangular patch of flowers, then nods.

"The shape is too uniform," she says. The corners of her mouth quirk slightly upwards. "It's probably not a body. Do you have measuring tape?"

V. Spring Festival

George hated to waste food of any kind really, but the root beer at this festival was the most lousy excuse for soda he'd ever sipped. He'd just tossed his mostly full cup onto the ground in a spill of ice and brown foam when he noticed the guy in the cape stepping up to the concession stand close-by.

"Better take a pass on the root beer," he said, matter-of-fact, a short, taciturn guy in sturdy denim work pants, a denim work jacket with brass buttons, and a slouchy brimmed hat. "Waste 'a money. You one of the acts? They oughtta comp you, not make you wait in line like everybody else."

Malcolm nods. "Ah. Well. I'm a forensic psychologist, so I guess I'll cover the 'soft' sciences so you don't have to," he jokes lightly. "What's your favourite, then?"
abrightboy: (pretty pleased)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2022-04-19 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. “What have they got you doing here?” Malcolm asks curiously.
abrightboy: (counterpoint)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2022-04-19 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
“Like… experiments and… stuff?” Malcolm clarifies.
bindlestifflost: (Worried or scared)

"Well, the corn dogs are good." Better than the hot dogs. He had no idea what was going on with those buns.

"Oh, yeah?" Something in his body language closed off a little, not a visceral withdrawal. He just seemed to shrink a bit, seem less affable. "One 'a them smart folks. That's good. Guess you got plenty a' work to do here."
bindlestifflost: (Drifter)

[personal profile] bindlestifflost 2022-04-19 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that answer really wasn't too bad. He was still wary. He'd had enough experience with things like this turning south fast and hard. "You're right about that. Not a lotta folks see it that way, though."

He would never call himself a smart or clever man. If he was, he'd be in a helluva lot better shape all the way around than he was. That sounded even more promising. "What they got you working on? Some kinda machine work?" George could do engines. Combines. Things like that.

"If you come out here again, you should bring rope. It comes in very handy."

Just...not usually as a makeshift measuring tool. But it's a decent idea, so she'll take it.

She unslings her pack from her shoulders, unfastening it and pulling out a neat bundle of thin nylon rope - the sort of thing easily found anywhere that might have cause to stock climbing equipment - and a wax pencil. She eyes the items with an air of faint dissatisfaction that suggests she's mentally adding measuring tape to her field kit for the next expedition.

"This will have to do."

"I always liked working on engines," he said. He was under no illusions that whatever he worked on in 1936 held a candle to whatever they've got here. That much was as plain as the nose on his face. "You feel like, ah, what they got you on here is a good use 'a your time?" He was still trying to figure out his own place.

Aside from being good with his ear to the ground and having street smarts, it was hard to see how he'd fit in. His body language was opening up now, though. He didn't look nearly as uncomfortable. "It's all kinda weird, especially the way the others keep talking about things I ain't seen yet." His own experiences in Dogtown aside, he could still squint and call those mental episodes if he tried real hard.

“I’m sure they have less qualified people to do basic repairs,” Malcolm tells him. “Do you have experience with research into magic?”

Unfortunately, given the sheer number of different worlds, times, and civilizations the people brought in came from, it was easier to just make everyone take the class. Especially given that some people who thought they knew how to appropriately handle technology clearly did not.

At least the teacher was interesting? Obviously not human, clearly some kind of hologram, and also full of horrifying anecdotes about the dangers of improper cybersecurity.

...She's also entirely unamused by Senku's attitude.

"Well then, if you're that bored, maybe you'd like to help those who are struggling?"
