Not per se, though there are general trends in avatar design. Humanoid avatars based off mythological beings or historical figures are common. Some go for inanimate objects.

Not much for dress up, though I've tweaked my appearance a few times.

Mostly I've chosen to take after my mother.

(Halsey herself has commented that Cortana kind of resembles a much younger version of her. Of course the resemblance wasn't exact, she had added in a few things of her own invention.)

(AI don't get much freedom, but that is one thing she gets to choose.)

And it's the former. I was created by Dr. Catherine Halsey.

(Halsey made the third generation AI architecture. Halsey programmed her. Halsey even cloned herself and used one of the resulting brains in her creation. Not that she's likely to mention that last bit.)
