Summary: Here's the barbecue log! Eating, playing games, having a bonfire and sleep-over on the beach!

ɪ. ᴡᴇʟᴄᴏᴍᴇ

Congratulations, you've made it to the Good Harbor Beach September barbecue! With the weather cooling, but still pleasant enough, it's a pleasure to have a hangout involving ADI's residents and those who live at Bonnie's. There are still so many people who don't know one another, and many to strengthen bonds with, so the hours your dearest Wanda and Ren spend cooking and flipping and seasoning are nothing but rewarding! Seeing people enjoying themselves is great and it's motivating for them to keep doing these encounters every now and then.

On the menu, we have:
- Burgers;
- Steaks with jacked potato sides;
- Ribs;
- Zucchini-and-Pecorino fritters;
- Several different salads, including ovcharska;
- Aubergine kebabs with charred onion salsa;
- Salmon yakitori;
- Takoyaki;
- Cupcakes
- Apples and honey;
- Cherry dumplings;
- Sarmale filled with rice;
- Bundevara (pumpkin pie);


For drinks, there's a selection of alcohol, as well as coffee, water, tea, and a variety of sodas. Take in the nice view, jump on the ocean, sink your toes in the sand and enjoy yourselves. There aren't any usable tables, but there are several blankets on the floor for your perusal.

ɪɪ. ᴛɪᴍᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴘᴀʀᴛʏ

With bellies full, now it's when the real fun begins. There are a few decks of cards being passed around, as well as one of their single tables now organized to a beer-pong competition. Individually, games such as Never Have I Ever, as well as Truth or Dare can be seen, and those who wish to use their skills for entertaining are more than welcome to do so.

A little bonding here, a little drunken chatting there, this is your time to shine!

ɪɪɪ. ᴀ ʙᴏɴꜰɪʀᴇ

With those who have a curfew to worry about in mind, a bonfire is lit, and a few tents are set around the beach (may have to be shared). If anyone's got a nice story, now it's the time to share it, or perhaps if anyone can play an instrument, it's about time to break it out of its case. The night will be lively until the early hours of the morning, and of course, mindful of those who couldn't stay up this late.

The next morning, everyone will be properly thanked for their attendance and tupperwares will be distributed with leftovers for those who'd like to take some food home, the beach will be cleaned impeccably and everyone will go their own way, hopefully with smiles and a new sense of unity and connection from the amazing night they've just experienced.

They meet up at the buffet table. It is completely accidental on her part because while she has been here less than three months, she's already met a person that she'd rather avoid. Hello again, Malcolm Bright.

He's standing in front of the utensils and napkins. "Excuse me, could you please hand me a few napkins." Or he could move, far far away. How far, one might ask. Did he bring a car?

Malcolm picks up a few and hands them to her.

"Did you come here for fun or to hunt?" he asks as he hands them over.

[bossyboiler]

She accepts the napkins. "Thanks" Kate narrows her eyes at him and frowns deeply. She isn't going to deny it. What is the point in that? Instead, she is going to do what she does best and that is to ignore it entirely. "For fun. I baked cupcakes. You should try them."

Does she deserve the scrutiny? Yes but that is not the point!

"I can't eat cupcakes," he tells her over his full sized plate with four apple slices on it. "But thank you for offering. Is that a hobby of yours? Baking?"

You know, when she's not torturing mimes.

[bossyboiler]

She looks down at his plate and then back up again. "If I had known anyone had food allergies, I could have baked something different." But no one spoke up, that no one being Malcolm.

"It is. It relaxes me." And she's good at it which is the most important part of why she does it. "Did you come here for fun?" Because he doesn't look the type to know what fun is.

[abrightboy]

"It's more complicated than food allergies," he tells her. "But thank you for the thought."

At her question, he glances around.

"I came to... investigate the possibility." Of fun. "And maybe meet some new people."

[bossyboiler]

He's polite, she thinks. Possibly even more polite than she can be. Kate wonders if he uses the politeness of societal conventions the same way she does.

"Investigate the possibility of fun?" She places a kebab on her plate. "There's your problem. You're putting too much thought into it."

[abrightboy]

"Things get messy if I don't," he assures her. "Do you want to find somewhere to sit?"

Oh, maybe she's not done collecting a normal human amount of food.

[bossyboiler]

"Messy? How so?" She repeats. She has a habit of doing that, she realizes. She must stop it. It makes her sound like she doesn't believe a word he says. Kate isn't sure that she does but best not let him know that.

"Yeah." She'll talk with him. Maybe she can convince him that he misunderstood what he saw, that she isn't a bad person. Kate points to where someone had set up logs around what would be the bonfire. "Is that alright?"

[abrightboy]

He nods and makes his way there to sit.

"I have to be careful," he tells her. "How much I let my id take control. My father is a psychopath and I don't know, exactly, what I'm capable of if I let go."

[bossyboiler]

Kate sits down. "That sounds like," she pauses, "A lot to deal with." His father is a psychopath is news to her. What does that news mean to her? How he had treated her the night she scared the Mime has been put into a new light. He's afraid that she's another psychopath, she thinks, that's why he had been so concerned and alarmed. "Maybe you're putting too much into it. Have you ever tried to let go and just live in the moment?"

[abrightboy]

“Absolutely not,” he tells her. “And I won’t.” He takes a bite of apple. “There’s too much at stake. I saw what he did.”

[bossyboiler]

"What did he do?" She asks and then takes a sip of her drink.

[abrightboy]

“He tortured twenty-three people to death for fun,” he informs her clinically.

[bossyboiler]

Kate nearly chokes on her drink. She puts her hand to her mouth and attempts to recover her dignity. "That sounds incredibly difficult to have gone through."

[abrightboy]

“I was ten,” he tells her. “When I turned him in.”

[bossyboiler]

"You turned him in? Wow. That was really brave of you."

[abrightboy]

“That’s what Gil says,” Malcolm admits softly. “The truth is, I was already late and if I had seen it sooner, I could have saved more people.”

[bossyboiler]

"Could you have? Hindsight is always twenty-twenty. It's easy to see what you should have done or could have done." For example, she should have paid better attention when scaring the Mime that no one from ADI was nearby. "It wasn't your fault."

[abrightboy]

“Everybody says that,” he tells her matter-of-factly. “It’s no consolation to twenty-three families.”

If she wonders why he thinks the way he does or knows what he knows, there it all is.

[bossyboiler]

"Everyone says it because it's true. It's not meant to be a consolation to the other victims unless you're telling me that they would hold a ten-year old responsible and if that's the case, fuck them."

[abrightboy]

“They don’t hold me responsible,” he confirms softly. “I hold me responsible.”

[bossyboiler]

"For all the gods' sake, why?" Her tone lowers. "Why are you doing this to yourself?"

[abrightboy]

“Someone has to make it right. It will never be him. He’s not sorry,” Malcolm explains.

"And how are you going to make it right?"
