(The video starts, and two faces come into view. Those who live in the flophouse may recognize them as the two who spend most of their time in the kitchen together, talking and sharing culinary tips as they cook the night away and offer their dishes to those who live within the same walls, and occasionally the ADI-living comrade that comes to pay a visit.

Sitting side by side, they're smiling as if they were two old friends, and Ren guides the talk.)

Hey, this is Ren and Wanda. We'd like to invite everyone to have a barbecue outdoors with us next weekend, the 11th.

(Wanda takes over next:)

We can handle the cooking and everything ourselves, but some help would be appreciated. Ingredients, perhaps? (She looks over at Ren for confirmation on this.) Or if you want to bring something extra to share.

(It’s a nice way to bid farewell to the summer weather and the increasingly colder temperature settling in Gloucester afterall, right?

Wanda points at the camera. She’s all out of inspirational speeches about coming together and whatever.)

Is this live or just a video?

(Ren waves his hand, amused, and chuckles before he can reply as he fixes his glasses to his face.)

(Never does it.)

(And the video ends with smiling, excited faces.)

And yes, I'm relatively new here. I arrived a couple of weeks ago. I'm Andrew Jaeger. I've met Wanda, but I don't think we've been introduced?

Ah, that might explain why we haven't run into each other. I'm at the ADI housing, working in the Investigations department.

I go to ADI's housing every now and then.

(He's got to feed Akechi. He's worried.)

What exactly are you investigating?

It has its good and bad sides, living here, but it's convenient while I'm settling in.

I have a great deal of experience in both private security and the supernatural. ADI seems to be interested in strange occurrences so I'm a good fit for that.

Have you learnt anything about the entities?

I'm not fond of the rules, either, but I thought being close to ADI was the best way to get situated. Learn my way around.

[Get a feel for exactly what to expect from ADI, because he certainly doesn't trust them at their word. Not completely.]

I've learned that the entities are insidious and our abilities seem to be chained to them. And that they seem to exert influence at any moment of weakness.

Which is true of any predatory spirit, mind you, but it's more obvious here.

ADI said that using abilities or the like could trigger a catastrophe - do you know how to repel them or make a deal with them? Most importantly, do they really hurt others?

I haven't been here long enough to be any sort of expert, but with my experience from my own world?

Things that want you to cause fear and pain in exchange for power tend to be a bad, bad idea. There are things that don't belong in this world, but try to get a foothold through seducing and deceiving humans.

I think we witnessed firsthand how bad it can be, with the circus's little grand finale act. Now imagine they had set the tent on fire, too, with everyone inside. That's the sort of horror I think we're dealing with, whether I trust ADI or not.

I see. I'm not asking for myself, I'm trying to possibly dissuade others.

I have to admit I've been weighing the consequences of my own abilities, but I think it would be foolish not to take the warnings seriously. I've already found myself thinking in ways that aren't normal for me, moments of compromised judgment, and I find that very disturbing.

My apologies if I'm strident on the topic, I've had some experiences in my life that are hard to shake.

It's a lot, and not a pretty story, but perhaps sometime. With at least a couple of shots of whiskey to go with it.

[This is already more than Jaeger has talked about himself in...longer than he can count, really. It'll be some time before he really learns to open up.]

But I appreciate that we seem to be looking out for each other. That's another change for me to get used to, but I think it's good, under the circumstances. And I'm looking forward to getting to know some people under less stressful circumstances.
