Winter comes to join her on the other end of the couch, sinking down carefully, and guesses, "Me and Steve and Yelena." Kate is the only person besides Yelena herself who he uses her first name with. Kind of weird. But he continues: "We're not going to go far. And I thought maybe you'd come. If you wanted."

"Yeah. You three." She tries to smile to show that there are no hard feelings because there aren't. She understands their reasoning for leaving. She doesn't blame them. It is simply a change and a big one. "I know. I do want to come but I think someone needs to stay behind to monitor ADI."

It is quieter.

[ There are a lack of teenagers in the ADI offices. There are lack of turtle porch pirates. Her two roommates are going to be moving out on her. ]

How is it at Bonnie's?

No one specifically. It's just a feeling that's hard to explain.

I'm okay. I'm feeling kind of anxious though I'm certain a lot of people are feeling the same way.

Well, I want to. And things that need doing still need recognition. Maybe now more than ever.

Are you looking for someone in particular? I can keep my eyes open at medical, see if they come in...

No complaints that anyone realistically could solve for me or get rid of. [ She shrugs her shoulders. There's nothing to be done about a few things that worry her. ] It's a lot of change, not all of it good. Most of it isn't.

I'm not looking for anyone in particular. It's just a feeling that a few people are just gone.

He doesn't like that, but it's not like it isn't a useful thing to do. It's like he told Yelena: they will all still have people here. It's why they can't go far. "Then you will have to visit," he says. "A lot. We'll stay in town, at least until we can get the others out. The ones who can't leave yet even if they want to."

I worry about that and the people here who need ADI's glamours to go around town. I don't know how to replicate that. In Cortana's case, it's expensive to maintain her. I mean, with you, we can hid your ears with a hat or something. But how do you hide a six-foot tall owl person?

Please, Kate, if you need someone to hear your worries and share your burdens, know that I am always available. We have lost so many, I fear so deeply of losing even more connections.

I hope not too. Do you think there are people out there who really deserve all of this?

I don't know. Maybe they are. Having a bunch of people with abilities running around would definitely scare a few people. But ADI hasn't been exactly forthcoming with everything they know either.

I appreciate the offer Rue. You're a very dear friend for offering but I'm not sure it can be talked about or even articulated right now. It's just a feeling. But you don't have to worry about me. I'm not going anywhere.

She isn't sure about how she feels about it either. But she can't ask Winter or Yelena to sacrifice their beliefs. Kate will stay behind and spy. She works in administration. She can find reasons to go into other departments and snoop. "Don't worry, Winter. I'll still make dinner mostly every night and keep you supplied with brownies."

Like things are getting to be too quiet and yet too loud at the same time? [ADI feels emptier with the people who have quit and yet there are still forces trying to end the world around every corner it seems like.]
