Mercy huffs lightly. "A small matter for a small man. But you're not on his team for Campball, are you?" She hasn't sorted people, yet, but she'd like to put them opposite each other, if possible... if only because she suspects Eda's dexterity is going to bring her team victory. "I won't be playing myself, just refereeing, but it seems like you got plenty of skill for it. Whoever's got you is bound to win, Ms. Eda!
"Hope you're enjoying things apart from this?" She'll make a motion to Eda to pass her the ball. Maybe she won't be playing and Eda has skills, but she can still run the older woman through a friendly practice to make certain she's as sharp as she seems. And maybe give a few tips and tricks, if she can.
"Oh I'd much rather play against him," Eda agrees quickly. Even to the point she enjoys his company sometimes, competing seems more fun.
"I'll take the kid though," she adds, glancing over at where a certain slightly scruffy blonde teenager from her world appears to be doing his own practice. It's nice to see him look like he's having some fun.
She drops the ball back down and gives a light kick to pass it back to Mercy.
"Yeah, I'm... well it's a lot of people," Eda admits with a soft snort. "But I wouldn't miss something Rue's helping put on." Being friends with such a social butterfly was still a little strange for her honestly.
Mercy juggles the ball between her feet for a moment before passing the ball back. "I been here six seasons and ain't managed to have a single season-turning celebration up until now. 'All the stops' was the only option!" And she praises Pelor that things have finally gone well. Perhaps it's a sign that her faith has not been misplaced this time?
"That's Hunter over there, though, right? I haven't seen him around a while. I thought... huh. Thought he'd disappeared." She'd seen someone had added his name to the memorial wall, anyway. "He got that cute little bird with him still? Flapjack, think it was."
Eda blocks the ball with a foot, bounces it once or twice and then passes it back faster.
"Yeah, he... did. But he's back. Can't seem to remember the first time, though." Which is weird, and Eda has a lot of questions about this place. But she also knows it's awkward for him, so it might help if Mercy knows that he won't realise if they met before.
"He still has Flapjack, though. Little guy's been through a few scrapes but he's doing alright now." A few scrapes was an understatement, but she wasn't planning to go into detail.
Mercy blocks quickly, herself, then catches the ball on her toes when it bounces off, before hitting it back at Eda with her knee. The woman really is impressive for someone with that much gray in her hair. Granny is a spry woman, and Mercy doesn't think she could keep up with campball.
"That's... strange. Think- There's a fella I seen around who I think is like that, too. He was here, then he disappeared. Now he's back again. Young and handsome-looking. Maybe around my age? Wonder if there's... something going on when some people disappear. Like the Entities messing around with their memories?"
Eda blocks with her knee this time, but the ball goes a little wide of where she was trying to send it back.
"Not sure I've met him," Eda says, though it's possible she's been poking into cases of people vanishing temporarily indirectly, at least a bit.
"But there's certainly something going on. Not just forgetting about this place, either. Time's not right." Not right was putting it both mildly and simply, but that was what it seemed to come down to.
The ball nearly makes it past her as Mercy lunges to the side to stop the ball going too far off. She'll take a moment to dribble it between her feet and get it back under control before kicking it over to Eda again.
"Time?" That's a new one. "Like... losing time or gaining time?"
Eda catches with a foot this time, and suddenly tries to actually get it past Mercy on purpose.
"Like... being from the same world but different times. Or showing up again but not from the same spot," she says, not sure how much detail to share. "Don't know anyone else that's happened with?"
Mercy makes another valiant lunge and barely catches the ball. It gets kicked over to Eda a bit harder this time. She's not averse to making this actually challenging, after all, particularly when Eda already seems to be skilled.
"Can't say I do. He's the only one I know of who came and- Well. Hmm... No, that ain't true. I reckon we've had more'n one fellow named Peter Parker. Not sure if that's a common name, though."
Eda seems glad for the challenge as she quickly swerves to the side to kick the ball back. She really has missed playing sports, it seems.
"I know I've met one of 'em," she says, though it appears to take her a second or two to place the name. He seems like a good kid, from what she's seen.
It's getting to be more of an actual game now. Mercy's quick to knee the ball back in Eda's direction; though, it goes a little wide, and she'll likely need to dive for it. "Think so." She has to really think about that. "Didn't look the same, though. And it weren't for long. But the memorial wall's got him on there twice, and I know they weren't the same person."
Eda has to dive, though it seems like it doesn't take quite as much effort as it should. Being taller than her glamour probably makes the game just slightly harder to keep track of.
She pauses with her foot on the ball as Mercy talks about the memorial wall. She'll have to take a closer look at all the names. "Mm... maybe it is a common name then."
She'll keep it in mind, though. She's not sure how much is likely to be a coincidence in this place. But for now, she just kicks the ball back, faster this time.
"Maybe!" Her mind is, thankfully, pulled from more sinister and strange things as she passes the ball back and forth with Eda with increasing difficulty. In the end, she has to admit that the older woman is more on par with Ciaran than she is. Eda's the better player, but it's still fun, and even educational, watching how her fellow campballer works, even if it... doesn't make sense sometimes. She knows Eda's stretching farther and taller than her form seems to be, and it leaves Mercy with a needling discomfort about the uncanny wrongness.
Still, exercise can excise some demons. "You're gonna sweep this if you keep playing like that!" Mercy encourages the woman as she waves steps aside to help someone else with their practice.
