"Thank you. I think so." Her head tilts to the side. And there she is thinking Rue had been the most formal person that she's met. She smiles a little at his bow. It's a first for her.
"We've not." She offers her hand for a shake. "My name is Kate."
"Urianger." It takes a couple of beats longer than is entirely organic, before he takes her hand, though the shake is textbook 'this is how you politely greet someone'. "A pleasure, Kate. 't'is quite the festival, is it not?"
She thinks nothing of his pause. Maybe he is used to curtseys instead of handshaking with ladies. "Urianger then. It's nice to meet you." It is nice to meet someone under pleasant circumstances for a change.
"Isn't it though? Rue and Mercy really went all out. Have you had a chance to meet them yet?"
"I've met them both but I know Rue better. I'm sure they'd preen at being called a marvel." She finally reaches for the flower crown and places it on top of her head. "So have you been with us long?"
He considers the question as she places the crown. " t'will be two months, 'ere long, I think? Though to hear it phrased thus seemeth at once too great and yet too short a span."
He racks his mind - has he seen her around? Most likely not, that would require him to have his head out of a book, but it's not impossible they've crossed paths somewhere.
"Aye, for the ADI, though our new..." What's the right word? Employers? "colleagues' need and mine own curiosity hath kept me rather shackled to Research. Whither dost thou work?"
"Oh, you're in Research. You boys certainly take your job seriously down there. How's it going for you?" She reaches up to adjust her flower crown. She needs a mirror. Where is one? "I'm in Administration and Staff Development." A pause, "I like to keep busy."
"Ah, the beating heart of this august body." A slight smile. "We would be lost without thee."
Is there a mirror here? There must be. Rue would not make such an oversight... Ah, yes. Here, behind him. Another step to the side, then, to let her regard herself.
"Research is..." - he considers, for a moment (frustrating, under resourced, infested with Paragons?) before settling for the diplomatic, cop-out answer. "interesting. This star hath yet many secrets we have yet to uncover, of that I am certain."
"... what? Oh. No, forgive me; I did not mean to imply I am dissatisfied; in truth there are few places my nose would rather be than in a book." That the research department has so few books might well be part of his frustration; the internet is great, but his heart belongs to the forbidden section of the Great Gubal Library and always has. " 'tis a relief to have found such familiar work so quickly."
"My apologies then for the misunderstanding. I'm glad you like what you're doing. Makes all the difference in being able to get through the day, doesn't it? Are your coworkers treating you well?"
"Aye, I cannot fault their kindness; that so many of us are from our own worlds cruelly displaced breedeth, I think, a certain camaraderie. And thyself? Thou art content?"
"That's good. It can be terrible to work with people you don't like." She nods her head. "Yeah. I work in Administration and Staff Development. Most days I'm content."
"Then it seems Fortune hath smiled upon us both." He echoes the nod, then looks thoughtful.
"I wonder if I might trouble thee for thy assistance? I have no eye for such things as these" - a brief gesture towards the table of flower crowns, where their conversation had begun - "and thou such impeccable taste..."
"Hmm? Oh, certainly I can try at least." She turns her attention to the flower crowns on the table. She needs one that will suit his coloring and build. Eventually she picks one whose leaves have a blueish tint to them. The roses are a deep red and they are interspersed with a variety of white flowers. "How about this one?"

Oh, a mirror. "Excuse me." She uses it to properly affix the flower crown to her head. This way it won't come off.
"Oh. Interesting, huh? Do you not like keeping your nose in books. I'm sure they'd let you switch departments."
