Elidibus hadn't intended to participate in the game. Or the lessons for that matter, but he was still lingering around since Emet-Selch had been convinced to do so. Loosely on the sidelines, he might very well have been looking like a person who deserved to have a ball kicked at their head because they refused to participate in something fun like sports.
So clearly it's okay that Eda does so and at least she calls a warning.
Elidibus also knows the sport is not something you're supposed to use your hands for. Unless you're the goalkeeper? Or was that the local 'soccer' variation? He reacts quickly, in part because he's observant and also because of Eda's call, resulting in catching the fast-traveling ball with gloved hands.
There's clearly a moment where he considers simply throwing it back and bowing out. Instead Elidibus approaches Eda.
"Were you in need of a practice partner? I do not intend to participate, though I would not mind aiding you for a time."
"Honestly? I just wanted to see what you'd do," Eda admits with a small shrug. That, and the fact he was hanging around without participating did make her want to pester him, just on principle.
How else is she supposed to meet new people here anyway? She's pretty sure that she hadn't seen this guy around before today, though she wouldn't quite bet money on it. Of course, it's possible that he simply looks different and is glamoured at the moment--but she can't say the voice is familiar either.
"But those are some pretty good reflexes," she adds, glancing him over. "Guess it couldn't hurt to make sure I remember what I'm doing." Not that she actually sounds concerned about it.
This person has definitely not been around for very long. But Elidibus seems to be doing an okay job of dressing like the locals and fitting into a routine. No one's raised any alarms about him (yet). Eda might have seen him with another, much taller man. But Emet-Selch is off doing Other Things right now.
"Thank you. Though I had been observing." The ball is dropped to the ground at his feet. Rather than set down his backpack, Elidibus makes sure it's balanced properly on his back before moving forward, guiding the ball and himself closer with experimental nudging. There doesn't seem to be much in the pack so it won't hinder him. And maybe it is reasonable not to leave it just laying around for anyone to steal.
"I believe I understand the basics," he offers. "So it comes to what you desire to practice." Elidibus does seem confident doesn't he? Well he's also the type of person who would ask if something came up that he didn't understand from just watching and listening to the others.
And he's wearing sensible enough shoes when you consider it's still winter. So this probably won't be a total disaster on his end. A sudden, sharper kick sends the ball swiftly back in Eda's direction.
He, meanwhile, may have seen a much taller and featherier version of Eda around the ADI; but from a distance the main similarity between versions is the hair.
She watches him, perhaps a little curious about the pack but if she is she doesn't comment. When he kicks the ball back in her direction, her first instinct is to catch it with a hand; grudgby habits die hard. She catches herself and blocks it with a knee instead, but not quite as fast as she would have liked.
She chooses not to acknowledge the near fumble, instead bouncing the ball on one of her feet for a moment as she thinks about the question.
"Well, the game seems simple enough—looks like it's mostly just about getting past the other guy, so we might as well work on that." And as she says that, she tries to kick it past him suddenly.
There's many in disguise. Some who are not and others who look dramatically different from their normal selves. It's a feeling he has like an itch in the back of the brain used to being capable of sensing so much more and now urging him to find out more- but also in observing the way certain people move or carry themselves.
Admittedly some are good at pretending to be what the illusions suggest. He doesn't try to pry too much if there's any oddities to notice. He has his own issues to hide.
The backpack won't be hindering him. And Elidibus is aware he should take his own advice about reaping the advantages of engaging in some of this sport even if it's just in practice. Understanding the limits of his far less powerful (even by standards of mortals on his world) body. He is observant and as Eda tries to get the ball past him, he is capable of pivoting on a heel and moving diagonally to intercept before it goes too far. Whatever physical limitations had him remaining on the sidelines don't seem to be in regard to his reflexes.
"You suggest you've never played before. Yet you are very adept at guiding the ball. Is there a similar sport where you are from?"
The ball is shot back while he's speaking. Can Eda talk and play at the same time?
Depending on exactly how observant he's being, there are probably a few things to note. Points where her balance doesn't quite seem to make sense, or where her reach seems longer than it should be. Marks in the grass that look like they were made by something sharper than her heeled boots.
"I don't know about actually similar," she says. Talking and playing doesn't seem to be an issue; she blocks the ball with a knee before kicking it back. "We had grudby. You can touch the ball, you can use magic, and it's a heck of a lot more interesting."
Quite observant as a matter of fact, but most of those are details to be tucked away for later. Things like voice and manner and movement and... what an illusion may be hiding. For now, it's worth measuring to gauge how the ball is going to be sent back.
There's no illusion cast on Elidibus. The one physical trait he needs to worry about is easily covered with sunglasses. The other thing he has to worry about... well that's what the backpack is for.
"So you come from a place magic is used openly," he comments. He sounds intrigued and his next words prove he's no stranger to the concept.
"My own world is no stranger to magicks. Nor toward what this star would call supernatural. It is a part of every day life and the natural world." To be honest it was quite foreign. Though if it is true and all magicks come from the Fears, it is at least reasonable to expect there to be people moving in the shadows to prevent its discovery.
"Do you find it difficult to adjust?"
Ball's coming back Eda. This time he manages a curve so it seems like it's going further to one side than the spin will cause it to end up.
It's a trick Eda's familiar with—and fond of—but it still catches her off guard at the moment. She has to dive to the side to hit the ball back with... was that an elbow? It must have been. Probably. She grins.
"Nice. But... yeah, it's been weird settling in," she agrees. Her tone is mild—her doesn't actually need to know how difficult it's been to adjust.
"It's like that where I'm from too." At least, what he said so far is also true for the Isles.
Perhaps those who come from worlds almost identical to this one can claim to have the 'easiest' time to adjust. But it certainly wouldn't be true to say they have it any easier. Elidibus would assume everyone has a very difficult time being treated as if you don't exist. Perhaps even moreso when everything around you seem familiar.
At least for most from worlds of magic and supernatural have the consolation that their worlds are not denying their existence.
Elidibus stops the ball and doesn't kick it back. Crouching down he picks it up as though examining it.
"I have never had the opportunity to visit another star. Though I have borne witness to many civilizations and sometimes met visitors upon my own. Time will tell whether I have a chance to be thankful for this opportunity."
Eda tilts her head to the side as she watches him pick up the ball, but she doesn't say anything about it.
"Oh? I guess I'm ahead of you there," Eda says, sounding a little amused by it.
"I used to come to the Human Realm all the time. Not... this version, but a pretty similar one. Only that one didn't have fear gods." As far as she knows, at any rate. It's possible she just never ran into any sign of them, but she doesn't like that theory one bit. And no one else's world seems to have had them either, even the similar ones.

To note, not at her head.

She includes magic in that very casually.
