Who: wanda maximoff and YOU
When: days prior to event
Where: around town, flophouse
Summary: doing a little exploring, some housekeeping, meeting people
Warnings: none atm!
A. GOOD HARBOR BEACH
[so they can't use magic.
ever since she came to learn to use her powers, magic was like second nature to her—it just didn't feel right to not be able to have the swathes of red fulfill whatever she commanded it to do.
now, she's been here for a few hours in quiet contemplation, until she got the urge to hop her way towards salt island, using the land bridge formed because of the low tide. this, however, she did not realize was because of the tides. now, annoyance has her squatting on the edge of salt island, hugging her arms around her knees, waiting for the tide to lower again. if only she could do magic without restriction, she would fly back to the beach, or even will down the tide.
hopefully no one shows up to witness her current problem. and yes, she would rather wait for the tide to lower than to swim, thanks.]
B. BONNIE'S FLOPHOUSE
[what bonnie wants in exchange of not having to pay rent is, actually, pretty sensible. wanda has no problems with that, and although she would rather just have a place of her own—she can't exactly twirl her fingers and have it happen—the flophouse is growing on her. even with all the little flaws it has.
not really wanting to worry about the cleaning or repairing, she sets about in helping with the cooking. it's a little bit of a relaxing, mindless activity, and although she has little to work with, wanda can think of a couple of dishes from her home that could feed plenty.
soon, the smell of food wafts throughout the floors of the building. as wanda's finishing up and setting plates down for anyone who would like to come down into communal area to get themselves some early supper. it's not much, really, but she's managed a pot of beef and onion stew and several stuffed cabbages filled with minced meat and rice. she reclines against the counter with a bowl of soup in her hand, and keeping an eye out for anyone who ventures in.
easy way to meet the neighbors, right?]
C. MIDNIGHT CINEMA
[the cinema does catch her attention almost immediately. the architecture of the place is rather difficult to ignore, and there is some kind of allure to it. and though it seems inviting and wanda has seen people go inside, she doesn't know if she wants to go in.
when is the last time she even saw a movie?
as if changing her mind halfway through her walking up the path to the entrance, wanda abruptly turns around to head back into the street—]
Sorry.
[—and walks right into someone.]
I didn't see you.

I didn't see you.

I'm also new, William. I'm Wanda.
[and it sure seems like whoever has been here a while hasn't really been here "a while".]
Just trying to wrap my head around all that information we got at the ADI. Pretty wild stuff, huh?
no subject
[He accepts the bowl with a nod of thanks, stabbing a fork into some of the stew.]
Yeah, it's -- a lot. We don't have stuff like this where I'm from, none of this powers or beings or supernatural anything. It's wild getting yanked in blind to something like this.
no subject
[wanda? she isn't sure how to go about the whole looking into things and the like. she's not one for an inquisitive mind; she has other priorities.]
What do you do back home?
no subject
[He finishes chewing some of the stew, clearly enjoying it, before answering:]
I was a cop, back home. Detective-in-training. Hadn't been doing it too long before I came here, though. How about you?
no subject
[maybe they know each other? the chances of them being from the same world might be minimal. it's nice to make those connections, though.
what about her?]
Don't really have a job back home anymore. [she waves her hand a bit, as if wanting to dismiss the subject altogether.] I was taking some time off to study and come to terms with things.
no subject
[He says the words pleasantly, but there is an internal piece of him that is already filing away that piece of information. He'll absolutely need to look into that, and get a read on what kind of copy he might be dealing with.
Still, he focuses on the conversation at hand. William notes the phrasing 'come to terms with things' -- while he has no idea what Wanda might have gone through, that was a phrase that was only ever used when something truly bad had happened.
But he doesn't pry at that, though the recognition of it remains. Instead, he asks:] Ah, okay. What were you studying before you came?
no subject
(she likes harry a lot; thinks he's a great guy.)
though she continues eating, she stops to consider his question.]
Just trying to learn some magic. [no point in not being honest; people here are known to have powers, though not all of them. but, haha—] You know some tricks?
no subject
[It should feel odd to ask that question, but even a brief time at ADI had trained him out of assumptions. There was no magic, no supernatural powers or anything like that in his world. But, well, this new had already shown him plenty of crap he hadn't thought possible, so he was going to need to be more open-minded.]
Or like magic tricks, for performance?
no subject
[she clarifies for him; she hadn't quite thought of it like that, but now that it was on the table, she can't help but be curious.]
I don't imagine those are banned from doing.
no subject
[He says it with a slight shrug. After all, what would the harm be?]
What sort of tricks have you learned?
no subject
There is a coin trick that I've been trying to do, but it's been giving me a hard time. [she pauses] Some have said I'm more compatible with "real" magic, but that seems like dangerous territory here.
no subject
[He pauses at the mention of 'real magic' -- it's something he doesn't understand in the slightest, something he's never really encountered. So there's definitely a genuine curiosity when he asks:]
How do you mean, 'compatible' with it?
no subject
[though that's not entirely — of interest, really.]
It's what they told us at the ADI: some of us have powers. I imagine you'll run into quite a few of us who do.
no subject
[Which still kind of boggled him, admittedly. William really was having a weird time understanding exactly how powers in this place worked when you already had them back home. The Entities were one thing, but there was a whole lot else that had arrived here with their own skills.]
We don't have magic or powers where I'm from, so it's still all a little new to me.
