Log | The Multiverse Is Weird
Who: Peter Parker & You
When: December 13th and beyond
Where: Around the ADI building and downtown Gloucester
Summary: Peter tries to understand why, who, how and what all at once.
Warnings:claustrophobia, spiders
A. Well, This Is Awkward - OTA - cw: claustrophobia, spiders
[Falling into a vent when one had been previously walking away from a bar in Prague was sure a thing. A time even. Peter can't even really process what happens before he lands heavily on his stomach with a loud metal thunk. He grunts in surprise, clutching at his side with a wince. The Night Monkey costume does a decent job of cushioning some of the landing.
He looks around, just staring at the darkness. It takes him a moment to actively put together that he's trapped in a vent. The musty smell and metal walls surrounding him just make him guess that anyway.]
...Why am I in a vent?
[Peter's active confusion is why he isn't panicking. Normally an enclosed dark space would freak him out. Right now he's too baffled to actively panic. His grip tightens on the straps of his backpack as he forces himself to take a breath. Peter bites the inside of his cheek as he opts to just start crawling forward. The best way out is to find an opening somewhere. He can do that. Just focus on that, not the oppressive feeling of being inside of a vent.
Anyone below him will hear him moving around. Peter focuses on his breathing as he goes, grimacing when he bumps into something.
Why is his life like this? Why?
The spider drops on his face and he yelps in surprise, recoiling back. The sound of something jolting around in the small metal space is very hard to miss.]
B. Its Free, Actually! - OTA
[Actually getting a chance to walk around Gloucester feels freeing. A little nice even after going through all the weird introductions on base. Its definitely not New York by a long shot but it's pretty nice all the same. He's gotten the warning to avoid Dogtown, whatever that is, so, he's sticking with something kind of normal so far.
Peter is trying to not freak out about all of this and focus on anything else. Start small, build up. He can do that.]
Okay, so, in theory, I could start around here. Clothes, shoes, a flip phone, maybe. [He slows to a stop on the sidewalk, mentally trying to figure out just store to hit first. People drift by him, absorbed in their day to day lives, Peter is barely a footnote in their lives. He's fine with that. He wants to be normal, unnoticed for a while longer. That was what his whole summer vacation had been about until Elementals showed up. He couldn't help but worry about home given what he had been dragged away from.
Thankfully, Mr. Beck had it handled now. He had E.D.I.T.H, he could help Mr. Fury with Avenger stuff until Peter got back. So everyone was in good hands. He would worry about that later.
He lets the thoughts drop out of his head as he dug his hand into his jean pocket, tapping his fingers against the surface of his wallet. He had been given some money to get some new clothes and necessities off campus. It isn't a lot of money, but it can get him started somewhere.
He frowns a little debating with himself before releasing a sigh. Dumpster diving would save him some money, even if he would have to sort through everything he found.
Peter ducks between two stores, walking down the alleyway until he ends up somewhere behind an electronics store. He waits to see if anyone comes outside before approaching the dumpster. He flips the lid open carefully, picking over the array of electronics thrown inside. Older computer consoles, broken phones, keyboards, monitors... There is a lot to go over in here.
He shifts his backpack off his shoulder, unzipping it and already grabbing a few smaller components to stash away inside. He turns his attention back to the dumpster, frowning thoughtfully now.
Peter for his part is rooting around for anything useful, his attention focused a bit too intently on the finds within to notice anyone who could have found him amidst his crime.]
C. Survival Of The Fittest (test drive meme based prompt) - OTA
[Peter is definitely out of his depth here. After the lengthy introduction process, some mass confusion and strange conversations an ADI agent strongly suggested he take one of the training courses. Thus, Peter wound his way to the underground gym.
Peter stares at the various stations. He knows logically, he probably should learn some kind of self defense, but the idea of it makes him uncomfortable. What if his powers come back? Would a better punch hurt someone worse?
He just shakes his head before looking at his fellow drafted ADI agents for some idea of what to do.]
Uh, any... recommendations? I kinda have no idea where to even start.
[Will you help him, oh stranger?]

The fact Captain America is pointing out they are in a completely different world draws Peter up short. He frowns a little uncertainly, brows pinching together.
The fact the multiverse is real is jarring, as much as it is reassuring. Mr. Beck was right. He was from a different world. Now Peter was in one too.]
Yeah, I... I'm getting the idea why I'm here. I think? [He laughs a little, his expression cycling through surprise, amusement, and bemusement. The whole situation is bizarre.]
It's kinda crazy though, I was talking about multi-versal theory with someone and now- now I know it's real. For really real even.
no subject
Yeah, it's real, [Steve confirms, and then, because why not, he throws in,] time travel, too.
[Then he backtracks just a little, clarifying - in this case:] I mean. People are here that I know, but they're not from when I know them from. If that makes sense.
[So far, he thinks he's the farthest ahead? He... hasn't actually had a serious talk about that with Yelena, has he. But he's certainly ahead of Bucky - Winter - and Tony.]
Which I guess makes as much sense as anything. If people are coming from anywhere, they can come from anywhen, right?
no subject
Yeah, it just makes figuring out whose from where very weird. Adding the whole- five years I lost on there just makes it weirder too.
no subject
[But - okay. That little tidbit at least tells him a little more about when the kid is from. Or, at least, it gives him a starting point.]
Yeah, [he says, quietly, smile tamping down a bit.] And I hate to say it, but it's probably gonna be a little longer before you get back to it. But I still believe you'll get back to it, once we - [he laughs, in that same, helpless way as the smile,] you know. Stop the apocalypse.
no subject
You know, perfectly normal and easy thing to accomplish. [Peter answers just a little dryly, amused at least briefly. Before he shifts back to something more genuine. The belief obvious enough on his face.] Together we can all stop whatever this apocalypse is gonna be though.
no subject
[Of course, he has to laugh softly at the next bit, because if he doesn't... well. Sometimes you have to laugh because there's no other option.] We've done it before, right? Or - we at least got it done in the end.
[Because they didn't stop it. But they undid it. He has to be satisfied with that.] Means we'll do better this time. Got one under our belts, already.
no subject
[Peter has to adjust what he's saying, trying to avoid outing himself as Spider-Man to Steve.] Yeah, the Avengers already undid what happened back home, so, this should be hard, but definitely do-able.
no subject
[He's not as happy about it as the flippant remark would seem, but in some ways, at least, he's kind of glad it's not the same old rigamarole all over again.]
ADI will explain it all to you - I'm supposed to take newcomers to orientation. They do know what they're talking about when it comes to the entities responsible for all this, even if I don't trust them with everything.
no subject
Is it better to be more skeptical of the ADI-? [He just emerged from a vent, he's got not a lot to go off here, Steve.]
no subject
I don't know about better, but... I guess I've learned the hard way not to trust big organizations that won't give you all the details.
[His smile is definitely pained.]
I just think we shouldn't trust them blindly, is all. It's still worth listening to what they have to say and deciding for yourself, though.
no subject
Right now, I'm just trying to get my bearings. [Especially since his own interaction with SHIELD involved Nick Fury kind of kidnapping his entire class, its A Thing.]
no subject
Let me show you the way down to, uh, orientation. I can show you around after that if you want, or you can explore on your own. There's housing if you want to stay here, they'll assign you a room if you ask.
no subject
Yeah, I'd appreciate that. Hopefully, I'm the only one who got stuck in the vents this time. I dunno how anyone else would take it.
no subject
[Is that helpful?]
I don't know him well, but I think Doctor Strange would be in his element here. [He frowns.] I think he was here, for a while. Before I got here. Sometimes people just... disappear.
[Which he does not like one bit.]
no subject
Helpful, and confusing, quite the combo. Peter blinks at one part in particular.]
Wait, trash mermaids-? Like they're made out of trash-?
[Knowing Doctor Strange was here feels odd, but less odd than anything else. The whole place feels like a space he'd probably thrive in.] Do... they go home when they disappear?
no subject
[Of course, at the question, he grows somber.] I don't know. I'd like to think so, but - no one knows.
[And he won't sugar-coat things, that's unfair:] No one knows whether we can get home again. But I believe we can. It only makes sense - doesn't seem like it should be a one-way trip.
[But no. No one knows for sure.]
no subject
[Peter is quiet for the moment at that. Trash mermaids completely forgotten by the somber edge the conversation takes. Peter frowns openly, not quite sure how to feel.] So, we're hoping we can get home, if we help the ADI out, is that it-?
[Well, that's not alarming at all.]
no subject
[But as for the really important stuff:] I think so, in part, yeah. They claim they don't know how we get here, either - if that's true, then I imagine it's probably tied to the entities we're trying to deal with, and it'll come out of the woodwork sooner rather than later. If not... we'll deal with it when things calm down. It's hard to disagree that things here need taking care of, and if we're able to take care of them - well. We ought to help, I think, in some way or another.
But I don't think it should mean we're stranded here, or held hostage.
[He doesn't like the idea of ADI holding a way home over their heads, but at least as far as he can find out, that's not it.]
