Hello,

I know most of you don’t know me yet. I’m Raine Whispers, head witch of the Bard Coven in my world but I know that title doesn’t exactly mean much here.

That doesn’t matter. I need to warn you about someone else from my world, because it seems she hasn’t done it herself.

Eda Clawthorne is under a curse that makes her extremely dangerous. Back home this was controlled with the use of potions, but we aren’t back home. When her curse takes over she turns into a beast demon–you may not have those here, but picture a huge, aggressive wild animal and then… make whatever you’re picturing worse.

I don’t know what can be done for her here, but it seems like too much of a risk to everyone’s safety to keep this a secret.

[It... doesn't seem like something they'd do, and even less like something they wouldn't expect her to be upset about. But it's not like anyone else here really knows, and it's way too legible for Hunter. And anyway she's busy being furious.]

(On the one hand, good to know! On the other hand Eda is, to some degree, a friend, and Cortana knows how upset she would be if someone revealed her secrets.)

Pretty sure that, given the way things work here, that's not going to be an issue if she isn't deliberately using her curse to terrorize people.

[Raine is confused and baffled by this response, what were they talking about?? Their confusion is warped in delivery.]

How can you be sure she isn't? That she's not terrorizing people? For that matter, what makes you so certain it's only people that need to be terrorized? I would suggest being more diligent about what she doesn't tell you about the curse. I know first hand she isn't always the most forthcoming about it.

I don't know, maybe the fact that I trust her? She didn't have to come try and help me and Beau when we decided to go exploring in the dangerous, haunted forest after dark. She's my friend Raine, why are you even posting about this?

[Raine is continually baffled by these responses, something isn't right but when they try to ask about it further things are lost in translation.]

You haven't met this one, she hides it when she can, keeps you in the dark about how it works. How can you be sure when she isn't honest about it?

I'm not certain. She isn't forthright about it. She'd rather push you away and put people in harms way than accept help. It's part of the problem, the only thing you can hope to do is avoid her.

I, too, have suffered such a condition. It turned me into a mindless beast that ripped others apart. The violence may be something to grant her power. It cannot be discounted as an asset in our fight against the forces of this place. We must turn their own power back upon them.

I wouldn't be so quick to think it can be used. She's hurt people important to her before, whose to say she won't the rest of us if she can't control it again? We need to be wary of enabling her.

If we are to defeat the forces we face, then some injury to our own may be expected. Blood must be shed in a war such as this. As long as she is mainly directed at our enemies, we me survive what injuries come to our own side for her rampages.

I thought the same once, but now there's even more people at risk here. If she doesn't share the truth are we just supposed to wait around for someone to end up hurt by her because of it?

[What is this shit? Screw texting. He sucks at it anyway and he's mad.] And I'm cursed as well, but you don't see me going around shouting it for all to know about. [Except... he kind of does tell anyone who asks, but details. The important thing to Manji is that Eda had warned him about her curse and he has no idea who this person thinks they are to give that information out to everyone. He's just instantly decided he doesn't like them very much.]

Take it you don't have a curse. Maybe if I ever see your face around town I should share mine with you so you can know just how good it feels for people to spread this sort of shit around.[Manji's curse does not work that way. It's a completely empty threat.]

[When Raine answers there's a moment of quiet, nervous stammering and muttering fills the quiet before they manage a response]

What? What are you talking about? I'm not- I'm not cursed..? I'm not sure where all of you are getting this idea from my post but it's just an introduction! Is this some sort of joke I'm missing..? Or a prank?

[The video feed clicks on before Eda actually comes into focus. There’s some indistinct chatter in the background, the words stage fright in there somewhere, and a brief glimpse of a blue-haired, androgynous witch looking deeply flustered, before she points the camera at her face.

She looks tired and disgruntled, ears folded back slightly, albeit no longer in a furious mood.]

So. Apparently that isn’t the message Raine actually tried to post. [A part of her is still questioning that but… no, no, they wouldn’t. But they lie a lot lately. But they wouldn’t. But-- She takes a deep breath. Perhaps ironically, given the whole topic, Eda has a lot of experience with feelings that aren’t quite her own and while she can’t be sure… something about how hard it is to trust them feels off.

She glances at, and turns the camera back towards Raine who gives an extremely awkward wave and is saying something along the lines of sorry, again, really– when Eda focuses back on herself.]

How anyone else knew any of that… [She sounds suspicious, but then sighs and shakes her head. It’s been mentioned a few times since being here, but not with all of those details.]] Whatever. Fear gods. Magic. Anything’s possible. On their phone it’s just an introduction.

But anyway, I guess that cat’s out of the bag. Even if it wasn't them it wasn’t… exactly a lie. [There isn’t a whole lot of point in lying now, especially with Hunter here. And it isn’t even completely wrong to say it’s not the best thing to keep secret.]

Most of you are being cooler about it than I would’ve expected. [She gives a crooked smile at this, although she still looks tired.] So thanks for that, I guess. [Though she definitely doesn’t want pity, either.] Don’t give ‘em the satisfaction of starting a panic. [She has to assume that’s the sort of thing someone was trying to do.]

But there’s nothing to worry about. It’s fine, I’m fine. It was a problem when I was younger but these days it’s all… manageable. And that was before being in this world where magic doesn’t want to work anyway. Turns out that has one perk, I guess. [It… might not stay fine, the bit about this world lacking potions was true, but she isn’t ready to admit to that part yet. Especially because it means admitting she isn’t strictly following the ADI’s rules. She’s gotten by alright this far.]

The point is, I’m almost definitely not going to eat anyone. Except for whoever actually wrote that message. [This comment is probably her trying to lighten the mood. Mostly.]

…Actually, y’know what? Here’s a warning of my own, whoever you are. Stay the hell out of my business and stay the hell out of my mind. Raine’s too. [She might be mad at them for both real and fake reasons, but she’s still protective.]
