Who: Aelwyn Abernant & You When: April Where: Around Gloucester Summary: Aelwyn plans an assassination, goes on a not-date, various other things. Warnings: Aelwyn in general, TBA.
[As Aelwyn stands at the edge of the festival, still a bit unsure what to do with herself. She looks over at Mercy, her... well, it's not a date. She hadn't framed it as a date so it's not a date. It's just friends hanging out together.
Aelwyn has spent the last few days overthinking everything about this. Everything about them. She doesn't expect this to be a break, both from the neurotic nature of her own brilliant mind and from the horrors that are inflicted on them at every turn here. There's something evil at the heart of all of this, of course. How could there not be?
But maybe if she pretends hard enough, she can take pleasure in the other girl's easy company, when there's no monster keeping them divided.]
I've never actually been to a festival before, you know. So, you'll probably have to be my guide here, dear.
[There's genuine shock in Mercy's voice as she looks over at the other woman. They're stepping toward the fairgrounds, and she'd thought to start them off with a stroll through some of the flower fields, but this changes the landscape a bit. She needs to make sure Aelwyn sees everything.]
Well, this ain't no Spring Turning, but we'll make sure it's good as it can be. We gotta look at the games, the food, and the little trading stands. We're winning you a prize at them games if I got any say.
[She will make sure Aelwyn walks away with something cute.]
[She laughs against the back of her hand. That reaction might make her feel self concious coming from someone else, but from Mercy she finds it cute more than anything. Then she shakes her head slightly, smiling.]
I've been to parties before, please, fancy and not. If you'll recall we even danced at one, darling. [She also turned into a demon and tried to kill her roommates at one too.] No, it's specifically these wide open fairs that are new to me.
[She reaches out a hand for Mercy to take.]
I shall put my life in your hands today, my dear. As the resident expert, of course.
[The reminder of the dance brings a flush to Mercy's cheeks. Aelwyn had looked so pretty that night, held close. She looks gorgeous now, as well, hair all but shining in the bright sunlight. Mercy takes the proffered hand and laces her fingers with Aelwyn's. Her smile turns just a little wild as she lifts her chin high.]
Ain't nobody better to show you how to do a festival proper than Mercy Graves, my Lady! C'mon! [A quick wink as she starts leading Aelwyn to one of the booths.] Let's start with the ring toss. It's simple, but a good one. Takes more skill than power. I know you got a hand for finesse.
[While the memory might make Mercy blush, it's the touch of Mercy's hand that sends a bolt of electricity through Aelwyn's nervous system. She grins at Mercy's proclaimation.]
I shall hold you to that, Mercy Graves. [She returns the wink with one of her own and allows herself to be lead with grace and dignity and only a mild look in her eyes that resembles a lovestruck puppy.
There's a few things she could say in response to that comment about her hands and finesse, but she settles on just smiling in amusement. Ultimately, she knows these games are about skill. Can't let herself be distracted. She has to win this festival, and to get a festival score that will be impressive to her roommate.]
It's a major component in what I do, yes. You go first and I'll watch and learn? [She's fairly sure she could run it by ear, but she does want to watch Mercy, so might as well.]
[Mercy waves the attendant over and doles out the $5 for a set of rings to toss. Warwick was always better at this sort of game when they were little, but she's had time to work on her finesse. The bottles on display are a variety of colors, mostly blue and green, with a few precious gold bottles scattered about.]
It's all in the wrist. And how it feels in your fingers. You gotta be delicate-like, treat it like- well, like you'd treat something tender.
[She looks over at Aelwyn with a lift of her brows. Mercy is more alluding to touching Aelwyn, in general, but...]
[For a moment, all Aelwyn does is blink. Then her normally sharp (currently round) ears go a bit pink and she lets out a breathless laugh. God, she really needs to stop letting Mercy sneak attack her like this.
[She smirks at Mercy, raising her eyebrows right back.]
Is that right? So, I assume you have to be forceful too, maybe even get a little rough depending on the throw? My, how complicated. Are there any sweet spots? You know, extra effective places to put your fingers when aiming?
[This poor attendant. The integrity of the metaphor has fallen apart.]
[Oh. That's... Oh. Mercy realizes where she's going and... hmm. There's a blush on her cheeks, but she's not one to back down in this sort of thing.]
Well, the place you're looking for on the ring can be a bit hard to find. It's smaller than you'd expect, but soon as you got your fingers on it, you'll know you got-
[The attendant coughs loudly.]
Ladies? Are you going to be tossing?
[Mercy bites her lip and glances over at Aelwyn again with a barely concealed grin.]
Tossing, rolling, all kinds of things.
[But to save him, she does flick the first ring out. It skips past a gold cap and lands on a nearby blue one.]
