To the Gentlefolk of Other Worlds,

My name is Sister Mercy Graves of the Spring Tide. I have been told this is the best means by which to reach all who dwell in hope and fear in this place of refuge. It has been a difficult time for many, myself included. The creatures in the water who took us from the streets and wrapped us in a terrible cloth have been slain, but their scars remain in our hearts.

I would ask, who among us found themselves transformed? How have you felt since? I have aids for sleep if you find yourself entangled with the Dread Watcher's claws. She that hooks and hangs a body with nightmares. I have taken to lessons in the healing facilities in ADI. I would surely welcome the company of those who would learn, as well. And if you have knowledge of the tinctures and tools of a practitioner, I would beg your guidance as I train in these new arts. There is so very much to learn and I look forward to the challenge of it, that I might help those who best need it in our fight against the dark forces of this world.

As seasons turn and carry on,
So to the winds we fly.
The hope we bring is never gone,
It strengthens by and by.
The cheer is ever in our hearts,
A song of joy to bide.

These are grave matters. I have never said good and bad could not coexist, but there was a wickedness in those creatures, pure evil that I have only known once before. The strange things I know are not like this. They are not transformation and joy at suffering and fear.

I have learned about so many new things since coming here. This was not a pleasant lesson.

I just write for fun. A friend introduced me to it. Poetry is a good way to get in touch with your feelings. You can get them out on paper and maybe understand yourself better that way. You don't have to but I'm sure you could learn! There's a lot of different ways to write poetry.

On my side, these things are all too familiar to me. I've been dealing with them literally all of my life. I advise getting used to it quickly, or it'll tear you down.

How are you doing after this lesson? You need to find more enjoyable things to learn from.

I learned from a friend and sort of figuring things out as I went. We could go to the library and I could find some good books for you to learn from, but you can also just try writing and seeing what happens!

And you're no trouble. Since getting here and after everything that just happened I think it's only natural for people to be upset. You're fine! 😊

I was lucky enough not to be transformed, but I wonder if the sleep aids would work for other sorts of nightmares? I've got a long standing problem with them.

And I'd love to try and learn from you, but I'm afraid that I'm not magically inclined. Is it something that it's possible to learn if you're not?

I cannot say I am as well as I would hope. It has been many years since I have seen such evil. I have fought against it an will not fade into the shadows for fear of it, but I think I may better at healing than at fighting these creatures straight on right now. I need to learn to be a better fighter. I did not know what to do when I was a seal. How would you have fought?

Dear Monika,

I would love to go to the library with you! There are so many books there. I have never seen the like. Evergreen had a few printers, but to have so many different books in one place is extraordinary. And to have it just be normal? The Abbey had a small library and Brother Ainsley had his archives with older scrolls and tablets. They always smelled like dust, though.

I am sorry you have seen such terrible things more than once. I hope the tides may bring kinder breezes to your shores in due course.

I am a novitiate of the Spring Tide, so I am still learning, but we are a healing order, bound to travel to the far reaches of Leigland to help those most in need. We know the arts of setting bones and mixing tinctures, the right root and the safest herbs. We praise to the Spring Tide who brings all things to life from the cold of winter.

There is only the magic of the soul in one I do, along with a great deal of reading. Anyone may learn the arts of healing, so the Sisters and Brothers tell me.

I can't say how I would have fought since I didn't have that experience. I didn't have the limitations all of you had by being stuffed into seal skins. But I've learned how to utilize what I have and make the most of it. This is how I'm adapting to this world without proper use of my Eyes.

I can teach you how to fight. But you need to be fully committed and prepared for it to be difficult.

I'm sure a specific kind of glasses would help me, but I'm pretty sure they're not made outside my world. My powers rely on using my eyes and I have more than two of them. Since I arrived here, they only function as would anyone else's. Quite frequently all I'm seeing with the other pairs is the clothes over them. I'm having to focus on trying to see with only two and it tends to give me a headache.

We'll have to pick out a day and head to the library. It'll be fun, libraries are great! If you want to make the smile, there should be a button on the keyboard you use to type with on the phone they gave you that looks like a smiley face. If you tap on that, you get lots of options. They're called emoji and they're really cute! 💖✨

The Dread Watcher is she who hooks a person's dreams with her many claws, pulling them in to hold and poison into nightmares. She is a jealous god, shunned by her kin, who takes what she wants from those who cannot protect themselves.

She is a grim and pitiable creature as much as a terrifying one.
