"Who, Jasha? Naw, he's one of my best friends. Dusty's my little brother, and he can actually do his own mending. I mean, Jasha can too, but he'd rather not, so it falls to me or Dusty."
A shrug, and then she mentions a coffee place and Ches is practically salivating already.
"Coffee, you say. Would you mind stopping there after we hit the craft shop. Unless they allow food and drink in the shop. I could use some caffeine."
"How many people are in your group?" She refrains from saying pack because there's being public within ADI employees and then there's being public in general. The latter is not safe and she wouldn't out Ches to the first anyway. "I know that a lot of people would rather get new than mend clothes but if I pay good money for something, I'm going to get full use out of it."
She smiles. "Yeah. We can stop. I don't need much of an excuse to get some anyway. Would you rather now, later or both?"
"About 14, give or take." he says, appreciating that she's not calling it his pack out in public. If there's anything he's used to, it's keeping that particular secret under his hat. ADI knows he's a werewolf, there's no way he could keep it that secret, and most people who he's talked to on the network have heard it from him, but he has no intention of the general public finding out. People are...unpredictable, and he's here by himself without his people.
"Yeah I agree with you about clothes. They're expensive enough, I'm not buying new any time I get a little tear or whatever. I live on a farm. Things get ripped to shreds on a farm. And yeah, let's grab coffee first. I could use some caffeine to give me strength."
"How did you find them all? Do you pseudo-adopt them?" She is familiar with the hierarchy of wolf packs in the wild. What she is not familiar with is how a pack hierarchy might be with humans. How does that work?
"Strength huh?" She leads them to Any Beans Necessary. It is completely as advertised, a cute little coffee shop that's been around a while but isn't a big chain. Kate likes that the shop is also very clean and the staff efficient. "I'll be ready to leave the craft store before you are." Maybe.
They get in line and Kate orders herself a vanilla latte. She gestures for Ches to order. This treat is on her. "What kind of farm do you have?"
"Lots of them come to me. I have a kind of reputation, I guess, for being able to help people with getting used to the condition we have. Making it easier, learning to live a normal life with it. That kind of thing. And yeah, strength, craft stores aren't my usual scene."
As if that wasn't obvious from how he looks. When they get into the shop, he gives her a little grin at the offer of a coffee, and orders himself a black americano.
"Thanks. And it's mostly a subsistence farm. Hay, a huge garden, animals for milk and eggs, that kind of thing. If we grow anything extra that we don't need, we sell it at farmer's market or my little brother makes preserves or pickles or whatever to sell."
"A reputation? How does that work? Is there an underground network?" What can Kate say about how she likes her coffee? That she likes a little coffee with her steamed milk and artificial flavorings? Yes. She pays for their drinks and waits for their order be ready for pickup.
"You're welcome." Kate tries to imagine living that kind of life and she completely fails. She is a spoiled city girl who likes being a spoiled city girl. "It sounds like a quiet life."
