For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Doctor Stephen Strange. Back in my home universe, I once practiced as a neurosurgeon; here, I’m offering my experience as a doctor in ADI’s medical department. With that comes a variety of responsibilities, but also the obligation to make the occasional PSA. So, here goes:

I understand that not everyone is completely trusting of ADI, or agrees with their handling of any given situation. And I’m not here to convince you otherwise. Instead, I’m here to make sure everyone knows that the medical department always has its doors open to any who need it, regardless of your feelings on the organization. So please take advantage of that fact.

If you’re injured, or sick, or feel affected by anything odd or supernatural in this world, don’t hesitate to get yourself checked in. Your health is always of the utmost importance, and we’ll do what we can to take care of you. Remember: you can’t continue to investigate if you’re ill or otherwise incapacitated.

If you need to contact me personally, that’s always an option, too. Doctor Dyer is also available for the same services, and is just as competent — if not more so.

Dr. Strange is being kindly flattering in regards to myself, but in regards to your health, he is absolutely correct. My name is Emily Dyer, and I'm operating as another physician in ADI's medical department, with my background best classified under general practice and community medicine.

Our allegiance, in the end, is not to those who've agreed to help ADI, but to anyone who is in need of a doctor's care. Wherever you come from, whatever your take on this entire predicament we find ourselves in, we wish only to aid and to be deserving of your trust.

This sentiment isn't limited to just us, but rather all of our colleagues as well. If you aren't able to come into the department, or an emergency has arisen, send us a message, and we'll come to you instead.

Additionally, I'd like to put forth a small secondary announcement. I've been working on a medicine to aid sleep and reduce nightmares, and at this stage, it's ready to be given to a larger group. I'd like to offer this out to those who'd wish to try it, with a request that you let me know how it works for you so that I can accurately calculate its efficacy as a remedy.

If you're concerned about what it's comprised of, it's based in herbology and natural sources instead of harsher synthetic chemicals, and I have been taking it myself, so you needn't feel there is a risk associated. At worst, it simply has a bitter taste, which can be improved on with time. Regardless, I realize that this will raise questions, and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

I should be clear, I think: I no longer practice as a neurosurgeon at home. My hands won't allow it. That said, my medical knowledge can still be used in a more generalized sense here in ADI, as long as I don't run into any specialties that are outside of my field. The basics are still very much stuck in my memory. You can blame the nature of med school for that.

Ah... well, I have no doubt that a colleague of Dr. Dyer's is one I can put my faith in. That woman seems to have quite a capable head on her shoulders, so-- while I hope it isn't necessary, I'm happy to know should I need it, I'm in capable hands!

Which I hope you don't take as some kind of pun regarding yours, by the way. Not intended. Though, if it isn't a sore subject - are yours alright?

[What a journey he's undergone, that what was once a very sore subject, indeed, is now simply a facet of himself he can speak plainly about. A simple fact, a part of who he is today.]

That depends on what you mean by "alright". They're not debilitating. [Not any longer.] But I was in an accident, once, and I sustained nerve damage in both hands. I'll live with the effects of it for the rest of my life.

So, no more performing complex surgeries for me, you can imagine.

[ a man who, no doubt, could definitely use some of that aforementioned rest after his worldly (and off-worldly?) endeavors. ...rest that is still, sadly, inedible; poor Dr. Strange. ]

I'm sorry to hear... I won't pry more deeply, but thank you for humoring me, Doctor. For what it's worth, I'm quite glad you haven't lost use of them entirely. I haven't been in Gloucester exceptionally long, but long enough to tell that a man with your skillset is bound to come in quite useful sooner or later... I'll count us lucky to have you.

And I'm afraid my skillset isn't quite so helpful, seeing as I'm currently working in the canteen these days, but should you ever find yourself in need of an excellent cup of tea or a reminder to eat something once in a while? Very glad to assist. All in a day's work and all that.

Well, you flatter me. I’m just hoping that there’s less and less use for the medical department between us, not more.

I have to ask: how’s your cup of coffee?

Coffee? Well, I don't like to toot my own horn, but I like to think I'm something of an aficionado, personally. You know that over-burnt coffee pot taste? A thing of the past, my friend!

Do you take it black? Cream, milk, sugar?

I can be the judge of that when I swing by after one of my shifts. You have a high bar to clear. I’ve had my share of middling-to-decent cups of coffee.

Black, usually.

Black it shall be! And feel free to judge as critically as you'd like; how can a man perfect his cup of joe if he isn't open to criticism, you know?

Anyway, there'll be a cup with your name on it one of these days. Just give me the head's up and it's good as done.

How about today? I won’t lie: I’m curious about the otherworlders here, and a cup of coffee is just an excuse to get to know someone better.

There's no time like the present, so the saying goes, right? And if it's a good conversation you're after, I'm frequently told I don't know when to shut up, dear Doctor! You can look forward to an eager participant in coffee-talk.

[Stephen shows as promised, after the tail-end of a shift that had run a little longer than anticipated. He’s in plainclothes—no sorcerer’s robes today—and wanders into the canteen with the aimless curiosity of someone looking for someone else they don’t quite know yet.

Not that it’ll be hard to find who he’s looking for, walking up to the man working here and asking—]

So, I hear rumors about this place’s coffee. Are they unfounded?

[ Abel is preoccupying himself with cleaning some of the tables when Stephen makes his entry; it's not the lunch-hour buzz, and things are relatively quiet in the canteen this time of day... which means both men make one another rather easily. ]

--Ah! Doctor, your timing is impeccable. [ he's slipping the dish towel away, holding out a hand for a handshake with a good deal of energetic cheer. ] A pleasure to meet you in the flesh! And please, take a load of wherever you like, mm? There's only one way to find out if I can put my money where my mouth is, and that means getting you a cup of coffee post-haste.

[He isn’t certain if his mental image of the man matches reality, but his demeanor does — the same enthusiasm conveyed through text is more than noticeable in-person. Stephen gives him a small, bemused grin, reaching out to complete the handshake. Observant eyes might notice old scars running all along his fingers and a slight quiver to his grip.]

[Stephen crosses over to an empty table. Seating himself, he raps his fingers a couple of times on the tabletop.]

I should drop by more often. I hadn’t realized there were more than just ADI employees working at the canteen.

[ the injury Stephen had sustained must have been incredibly painful... and devastating for a surgeon. but Abel does his best not to let his attention linger in one place for longer than is polite; his shake is exceedingly gentle regardless -- not because of present company, but by nature. ]

Right? I hadn't either until I started working here myself...! But there a few of us floating around. I'm not especially equipped to help too many other areas of ADI, but it's not all too difficult to feed and clean for those of you with those kind of expertise...

[ if only they could all be useful like the good Doc here.... alas...... ]

--Ah, now, let's see. You said you take your coffee black, hm? I could try and dig you up something to eat, too, if you're hungry? On the house!
