For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Doctor Stephen Strange. Back in my home universe, I once practiced as a neurosurgeon; here, I’m offering my experience as a doctor in ADI’s medical department. With that comes a variety of responsibilities, but also the obligation to make the occasional PSA. So, here goes:

I understand that not everyone is completely trusting of ADI, or agrees with their handling of any given situation. And I’m not here to convince you otherwise. Instead, I’m here to make sure everyone knows that the medical department always has its doors open to any who need it, regardless of your feelings on the organization. So please take advantage of that fact.

If you’re injured, or sick, or feel affected by anything odd or supernatural in this world, don’t hesitate to get yourself checked in. Your health is always of the utmost importance, and we’ll do what we can to take care of you. Remember: you can’t continue to investigate if you’re ill or otherwise incapacitated.

If you need to contact me personally, that’s always an option, too. Doctor Dyer is also available for the same services, and is just as competent — if not more so.

-Dr. Strange

Dr. Strange is being kindly flattering in regards to myself, but in regards to your health, he is absolutely correct. My name is Emily Dyer, and I'm operating as another physician in ADI's medical department, with my background best classified under general practice and community medicine.

Our allegiance, in the end, is not to those who've agreed to help ADI, but to anyone who is in need of a doctor's care. Wherever you come from, whatever your take on this entire predicament we find ourselves in, we wish only to aid and to be deserving of your trust.

This sentiment isn't limited to just us, but rather all of our colleagues as well. If you aren't able to come into the department, or an emergency has arisen, send us a message, and we'll come to you instead.

Additionally, I'd like to put forth a small secondary announcement. I've been working on a medicine to aid sleep and reduce nightmares, and at this stage, it's ready to be given to a larger group. I'd like to offer this out to those who'd wish to try it, with a request that you let me know how it works for you so that I can accurately calculate its efficacy as a remedy.

If you're concerned about what it's comprised of, it's based in herbology and natural sources instead of harsher synthetic chemicals, and I have been taking it myself, so you needn't feel there is a risk associated. At worst, it simply has a bitter taste, which can be improved on with time. Regardless, I realize that this will raise questions, and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

-E.D.

I’m interested in the remedy, but I’m on a range of heavy mental health medications and my sleep problems involve a parasomnia. Is this going to present complications you’re not prepared to deal with yet?

If you would be willing to meet with me and give me a list of your medications, I can check against them all for adverse interactions and let you know whether or not we can move forward. As far as the parasomnia goes, I would have to ask you a few questions to make an exact judgement.

[and naturally, she's not going to have discussions like that not in private.]
abrightboy: (not convinced)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-04 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Where can I meet you?
medicative: (conference.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-04 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the time I can be found in ADI's medical facilities, but I can also come meet you outside the building, if you'd prefer.
abrightboy: (displeased with this)

I’ll come to you.

[Malcolm gathers up his pill bottles and stuffs them in his pockets, so there’s a muffled rattling to his walk when he reaches ADI medical. He stops the first person he sees with a name badge.]

I’m looking for Dr Dyer.
medicative: (wake.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-05 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
[they nod at his request, directing him to the proper section, where a woman with brown hair is fussing in one of the labs. she's carefully studying and measuring amounts of a blue tinged liquid into smaller vials, but looks up to hear footsteps actually coming into the room - sure, on the devices she knew people were coming, but the names alone didn't tell her who was who.]

May I help you?

[hopefully, he'll introduce himself.]
abrightboy: (scrutiny)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-05 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I’m Malcolm Bright. …I have the meds and the parasomnia?

[He takes four pill bottles out of his pockets - alprazolam, sertraline, trazodone and risperidone - and sets them on her table.]

This is everything I’m on.

[It’s a lot at once. The doses aren’t entry level. He’s been on his medication journey for a long time.]
medicative: (order.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-06 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Mr. Bright, it's a pleasure.

[before she goes to look at the medications, she looks over to make sure the lab door is shut - whether in a treatment room or not, the idea of patient privacy is something she takes seriously. only then does she let herself look over the bottles and their doses. it certainly is quite a bit to be taking, but it helps to know.]

I see...

[studying them for a moment, she nods.]

Since I don't want to hand you anything based off my best guess alone, what I can do is cross check my ingredient list for side effects and let you know in a day or two how is best to proceed. If anything would be cause for concern and it can be removed or altered from my formula, I'm willing to do that and create a second version for you to try.
abrightboy: (hates to break it to you but)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-06 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods and shifts his weight.]

It’s not just that. I suffer from pavor nocturnus. Night terrors. Full blown. I sleep in restraints or I walk. [A beat.] Walk. Scream. Run. Fight. Fall down stairs. Meds don’t touch it. Nothing does. It’s pretty widely considered to be inconsolable. I don’t want you to go to all the trouble [He gestures to the pill bottles] if your formula is never going to work on this particular… problem.
medicative: (response.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-07 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Emily nods, but her expression softens - and it's very clear that when she speaks next, she's wholly sincere.]

I know it's difficult, to meet again and again with things that don't help after you hoped it would, but with your consent, I'd still like to try for you. Call me stubborn, or perhaps just foolish, but I don't believe anything is truly insurmountable - only that one doesn't have the right resources, or it hasn't been studied enough.

[she can't believe that things are incurable - at least, not things in the mind. to give up on that would mean giving up on her debt to another, and to lose that hope...well, she won't think of it.]

Don't think of it as going to trouble. It's an offer freely given.
abrightboy: (empathizes)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-07 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[He watches her for a moment. He clearly wants desperately to hope. He’s also clearly afraid to. He nods and starts to pick up his pill bottles.]

Do you need samples of these?
medicative: (practice.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-08 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
No, but let me note down the dosage strengths.

[where is her notebook...over here, yes. it'll matter when considering the interactions, but she doubts ADI will mind if she procures some if needed for tests.]

Are there any other questions or concern you have? About the medicine, or your health in general?
abrightboy: (figuring you out)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-08 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[He gives that more consideration than perhaps is normal. His overall health isn’t bad, considering. He does the things he’s supposed to do: he takes his medicine, exercises, tries to sleep…]

Does your formula have any adverse effects on appetite?
medicative: (heart.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-09 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
None that I've noticed. I felt no urge to eat more or less than normal - any discrepancy in appetite is easily corresponding to other factors in my environment. You should be able to navigate your day as well as you always do.

[it had been one of the categories she had taken notes on, after all - basically, her entire physical state for the last few weeks was documented in there.]
abrightboy: (figuring you out)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-09 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods.]

Okay.

[He takes a breath, then nods again.]

Um. Just… [He gestures to her notes.] Let me know, then.
medicative: (have.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-10 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I will. And if you have any other health questions in the meanwhile...the post was sincerely meant.

[true to her word, though, a message will come to Malcolm's inbox in the next two days.]

Mr. Bright,

I've finished looking into potential interactions between your medications and the sleep aid I created. Fortunately, it seems like there's no overlap nor effect and therefore the balance would be maintained. If you're still interested in giving it a go, I can get you a two week supply to try and see how it works for you.

Hopefully you are well regardless.

-E.D.
abrightboy: (secret smile)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-14 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Instead of answering her message, Malcolm heads back to the infirmary to see her. There's a small difference this time. He walks in distracted, his attention on his phone as he narrowly misses bumping into the doorframe with his shoulder. He glances up to see that it's her there.]

Hi. If you think it's safe enough, I'll give it a - damn it! [He puts his phone down with a huff and refocuses on her.] I'll give it a try.
medicative: (impossible.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-14 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
...May I also offer my professional caution that too much of that can lead to unexpected injury?

[not just hand cramps and the like. she's seen a few people walk in with nasty bruises from not paying attention to their surroundings, and all of them related to that strange game that she has no time to turn her head and play.]

In any case, I do think it's safe - I've referenced all the components with your list of medications and found no record of interactions to be wary of. The worst that can happen is that it simply doesn't work, at which point you can hold me liable for dashed hopes.

[turning to her workstation, she procures a small paper bag, which she holds out to him.]
abrightboy: (counterpoint)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-15 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I’m hope deficient. Can’t hold you responsible for damaging something I don’t have! [He says it like he’s joking, but he’s not really joking. He takes the bag.] Thank you.
medicative: (piece.)

[personal profile] medicative 2021-12-18 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome. I don't mind how you choose to relay your results - if you keep your notes and then tell me all at once, or daily, or what have you - just as long as you do, or I'll have to badger you a little for them.
abrightboy: (figuring you out)

[personal profile] abrightboy 2021-12-19 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. [Relaying the results is a thing.] Yes. I’ll text you. Thank you. I mean. For the effort. It’s kind of you.
