Summary: A little thanksgiving party for everyone.
Warnings: Alcohol, but other than that, none!



(It's finally the day! Ren's spent the day in the canteen, from the early hours of the morning with the help of Kate, until just close enough to the arranged time.

Several tables in the cafeteria are taken by the food, but there's still plenty of room to sit and spend time with your fellow ADI employees. After the previous month everyone has had, it feels much needed. Available is the following menu:

Deep-fried Turkey + Stuffing;
Ranch-Seasoned Roast Turkey + Stuffing;
Mashed Potatoes + Gravy;
Green Bean Casserole;
Cranberry Sauce;
Pasta alla Norma;
Sicilian Rice Balls;
S'mores Cupcakes
Pumpkin Pie;

Ren's tried his best to recreate what the Internet and other folks have told him, and without him tasting the original flavors, some of the dishes might have an unexpected twist of spice. Kate has also helped with putting things together, and at the previously arranged time, Ren opens the doors with a smile from ear-to-ear.

Once everyone's settled, he'll ask for a moment to, gasp, speak:)

I'd like to thank everyone for coming today. I know it's been tough, but I'm still thankful we can spend good moments like these together. I hope you enjoy the food.

It's from ADI's library. I've been reading up on this world's history as much as I can.

Mm. Good call. [Especially if you last more than a couple of months.] I'm beginning to wonder if it's true of every world that their history is filled with nightmares and wretched horrors. Although, honestly, this one's version is considerably more dull than the others I've read about.

There are animals in human's clothing everywhere. I'm not particularly surprised.

(Considering his own world.)

I just suppose it's in our best interest to learn as much as we can. Besides, I really do enjoy reading.

[Smart. That's useful, at least.] I completely agree. I have a few books I can share, if that's what you're interested in.

My old roommate, he wanted to start a communal bookshelf so we could all consolidate useful sources of information. I haven't kept up with it since all my roommates keep mysteriously vanishing, but I can lend you a few I've read since my arrival.

I'll share the ones I've finished reading and deemed important in turn.

(But truthfully, now his concentration is ruined. He scans the page for the number, and respectfully closes the book.)

Speaking of roommates. You're more often than not gone, aren't you?

[Imagine not being able to have a conversation, read a book, and internally scream from a hangover at the same time. Couldn't be her.]

I am. [She shrugs.] I don't need to sleep for a long time, so I tend to prefer to do something with my nights.

(Yep. Curiosity is getting the best of him.)

How come?

Elves. We only need to meditate four hours a night.

[Or at least that's the rigid standard set to maximise academic efficiency.]

I don't think there is such a thing as where I'm from. We're all just human.

Your world and this world have that much in common, it seems. It's a bit mind boggling to me, but I guess not unheard of for a single planet to be entirely dominated by one people.

They're similar, and not at all at the same time. Technology here is more advanced, for instance.

Bizarrely the similarities between this world and my own are largely cultural. Several of the websites ADI is having us research exist in some variety back home, though they're named different things of course, and the architecture is more or less identical to Solisian architecture. It's just they don't have magic, so the technology is both more advanced and more basic, somehow at the same time.

I suppose you're not having adaptation issues, then. As for my own, it's much less reliant on technology, while it does exist -- computers and the like. The geography also doesn't match at all.

There's decidedly large differences that have been hard to adjust to. For one, everyone keeps looking at me like I'm an unhinged psychopath whenever I suggest lethal force, even though random acts of vigilante violence are perfectly normal and ethical back home.

[She was a "victim" of random acts of vigilante violence. A fourteen year old goblin showed up to her party and shot her with a gun. WHY IS SHE THE WEIRD ONE.]

And the geography as well. I got in an argument with someone who thought the earth was flat online the other day.

You can be both.

(It's a joke, and he laughs quietly at it.)

My Earth is-- strange in comparison. Our continents are surrounded by a strange land. I'm not sure where we stand on that as of now.

Wow, how rude. My old roommates never would have bullied me in such a way.

[She laughs as well, though. So far, she likes this funny little man.]

Your world's called Earth too? That's bizarre. There's one I've heard of called Oerth? But nothing of the exact same name. [Because it's a closely guarded secret.]

It doesn't actually have a name. It's just The World for us. It's a few continents surrounded by water surrounded by more land.

(Confusing? Sure is.)
