Follow he could. Chase Elidibus down to the ends of the earth; the ends of what little power they still have until they were forced to resort to what physical power was left to them. A fight even Emet-Selch can't say he knows the outcome of, but oh, it would be sweet to try. To enjoy the chase, and the thrill of what came at the end.

Still, it is not the choice Elidibus chooses, and Emet-Selch cannot deny that it is perhaps the better choice. The safer choice.

Lahabrea, perhaps, would have been. But even as he had deteriorated, the majority of his strength had remained. Enough that perhaps there would have been a worthy adversary there, had he been here instead. But he is not, and instead it is left to Elidibus to stand as the focus of this fear. This focus, for something that would not normally be anything that Emet-Selch himself would have preferred.

(But perhaps there is something of a reason it had come out so strongly in one of his descendants.)

He heard that brief scrape, as Elidibus' foot had slipped. Something that no mere shoe would have offered, and nothing that a normal human foot would have either.
