ADI is now introducing its newest security system. Those currently working SECURITY or IT have first dibs to enroll in a class that will teach you how to read and report the data this new system is giving us, as well as how to manipulate the presentation of supernatural readings to forecast where they might pop up next.

There is also the opportunity to help this project by simply giving us permission to access your phone or other personal devices
via an app. The more data points we have collected the better.

The system works by tapping into personal cellphones and other computers and sending back the distortion in voice or video that has been identified as coming from the use of magic. Devices of the residents of Gloucester, MA are now feeding live data to us. The goal for now is to get ahead of potential local attacks instead of being solely reactionary.

As you might imagine, keeping up with so much incoming information requires a large number of dedicated personnel.

From development to testing to launch, it's been nothing but promising. There are minimal risks at play here, Lieutenant.

Who developed this system?

I must confess that most of this makes very little sense to me.

But if you think that I should participate, Tim, I would of course defer to your expertise. Please let me know what you think that I should do. I trust you.

The system was created by myself and five other ADI employees, most of which come from off world. The debugging and testing did involve the help of native, more senior members. You'll have to clear yourself to get names from Neil. While the project began independently it is now technically ADI's.

I know it wouldn't be the most comfortable thing in the world, but it hopefully wouldn't be a permanent ask. We have plenty of examples of what happens to the data in the absence of active magic, but not much for when it's latent. Learning about something that... sometimes has to be concealed. Rue, it'll be a great way to make use of a rule that's already held over us.

Surveillance? I knew this would happen. I've seen how things like this go and it's never good. People always end up hurt or disappearing or.. or worse. I'm not letting anyone spy on me again. The Emperor's Coven was enough.

You shouldn't think this is a good thing.

I do not care very much for how ADI handles most things, it's true, but if this will help you and your research, Tim, then I would be happy to take whatever discomfort is required.

I appreciate the sentiment, I do—I’m all for doing whatever is necessary to get to the goal. And a magic forecasting system would be pretty helpful.

It’s just that this is the most egregious breach of privacy I’ve ever seen, and I worked for the US Government, buddy. These people didn’t consent to this, and just because you’re asking us permission doesn’t absolve you of the fact.

Though I don't work in Securities or IT, I do have experience handling large amounts of data—that sort of work is Administration's bread and butter. If you need any help managing the data, I'd be more than happy to work in that regard.

You misunderstood me, I did say we have to thank other staff for their help in testing. The members who were recruited to have any input to the code itself were very strictly vetted. Unfortunately that phase of the project has passed.

You're of course still welcome to join the orientation as someone interested in tracking the feeds.

I'd be concerned if anyone thought of it as 'good'. However the information we are collecting is what already exists, which several people are aware of but that's brushed aside as a simple consequence of today's technology. It's only a matter of which business next puts it to use.

The intent is to put a stop to distress and disappearances. Not add to them.
