[He's finally gotten this camera business sorted in a confident way and his initial research into his personal endeavors seem...promising. So now what was left was to gauge interest.

He opens the video where he sits in Apartment B-2, a wine glass in hand and entirely at ease.]

Good afternoon, fellow visitors, as I haven't been diligent with all of my introductions, let me start there. I am Johnny Summer: entrepreneur and purveyor of fine spirits, both to drink and to raise. It's come to my attention that there is not exactly a single place meant for comradery among the people meant to work together towards such a dangerous common goal. People need support, need a feeling of safety and a place to unwind.

It is my interest to provide such a place as I once did back home. I've spent my time here so far looking into how to make a bar or lounge for those brought here and any ADI members interested in joining in, but it occurred to me that deciding what you all needed wasn't conducive to providing what I'm after.

So what sort of place would you want, with the only guideline being a place people can relax and be themselves no matter who or what they are and with all conflict left at the door for an hour or two?

[There's a small pause as something else occurs to him. Means. He keeps forgetting he doesn't have all the means he's used to. So...]

Additionally, where this might be located would be useful seeing as I don't have access to my usual venue to offer its space.

[Or the money to buy a new one...]

Lemmie apologize in advance for all the varying levels of suckitude that you'll likely experience shortly, but the people here are nice.

[Well. Most of them are nice. John kind of looks like he'd been roughed up or in a fight recently cause he had to fight a mutant bear thing, thanks Hickey, but a n y w a y.]

If you're looking for a safe place, ADI is probably the safest place on this planet. Especially if you're looking for someplace where people can...be themselves. [Oh yes, he also has a crab claw for an arm. He gives a very dry glance over to his shoulder, which has spiky crab carapace showing in the screen. Really, he likes the glamour, but he knows there are other people that might not, and he gets that.

Of course, he doesn't trust ADI and he feels like any place like that in the building would have eavesdroppers and bugs, so.]

It'd be cool if it could have loud music?

[Suckitude? Is that a...word? Well, he used it like one, so it must be.

There's a small pause on his end where he takes a sip of his wine and considers.]

Loud music can certainly be arranged, though I'm afraid most of my music knowledge comes from a hundred years prior to the current year and a slightly different Earth with untold number of differences by this point. So I'll have to do some research.

As for where: on ADI premises is, of course, an option. I'm sure I could procure the space needed so long as I do most of the preparation and work myself, but I know there are those who live off the grounds. I would not want them to feel excluded or uncomfortable for whatever reasons have made them leave in the first place.

There might be few enough people left that there's an empty apartment you could take over. Pitch it as a way to keep us from mingling as much with the locals.

Sounds like a plan, though you should play some of your old timey music. Could be interesting.

You do have a good point there. There’s the possibility of getting some kind of temporary joint put up in the meantime on ADI grounds, like a tent or one of those portable building type deals, though that’ll cost money. Maybe ADI would foot the bill if you ask ‘em.

Yes, I had gotten the impression we weren't meant to make friends much here. That approach was warned off fairly quickly. It's difficult to change one's tactics at this point.

I might look into the other apartments. Or perhaps request a transfer to one of my own to use as a bar as well? Someone else suggested something like a mess tent, so I suppose that will be my backup option.

Exactly like a tavern, Miss Mercy. I would appreciate the help. I tend to prefer to make sure my stock is only the finest quality, but my approach back home won't be so conducive here, so perhaps finding a wider array would be better. Are you familiar with the local spirits here...of either kind?

[He's not...entirely sure she means what he'd initially meant in regards to people's moods, but now he's curious.]

[He gives a small snort.]

I'll look into a Big Band sound, perhaps. If we're going with a whole Mess Tent idea, seems fitting. I suppose, in a way, we are soldiers on the front lines, aren't we? There's just not a lot of national pride to be had.

[Which was...part of the point here.]

Familiar with both. Me and Aelwyn got a nice store of libations here at home. Though, keep it under your hat, mind you. I ain't technically old enough here to have 'em. Not that that makes any kind of sense. I been at the October Ale since I was 10 and started drinking Fire Whiskey a few years later. They don't got anything with the same bite, but still a good selection.

You're welcome to come round to sample the selection? And as for the other kinds of spirits... I got my ear out to folks and the things that might ail them in heart as much as body.

If a similar location already exists it could be possible to expand it into accommodating your additions. Assuming the current owner of the location would be amenable.

First good idea I've heard in weeks. [It's hard to tell how serious she is about that, but she seems genuinely interested either way.]

I'd rather it not be... here. But I dunno if the ADI is going to want to let us be 'ourselves' anywhere else. [Which is probably relevant to her, given that she's rather obviously not human.]

Then again, they do let us drop the glamour at Bonnie's. Maybe if you pitch it as a way to stop us drinking with the locals they'll think it's worth making an exception.

No. It's very hampering, but things usually don't go so well for our friends when we try.

[She shrugs slightly.]

That would be one way to keep an eye on things, staying in one of the rooms.

Oh, I am sure a similar establishment exists. There's at least five here already. However, there's three problems with that I can see. One: some here are not entirely human and they're not allowed to be themselves or let loose outside of ADI or Bonnie's establishments. That would go against the point of the place.

Two: we are discouraged from interacting too much with the locals, so any sort of rapoire is dead in the water.

Three: quite frankly...I prefer to do things my own way. If I partner with someone, I'd have to take how they do things into consideration and that's not quite conducive to the vision.

[Oh! Well...yes, she is exactly his point as to why this is important. He gives her a small nod.]

I'm glad you approve. Frankly, it's not my first choice either, but needs must. I'm going to put forth the idea, but should they not allow an outside establishment, would you be amenable to coming to something on the ADI grounds or in one of the apartments if it's meant to be safe for you? I suppose I could move out to Bonnie's and offer something there, but it's my understanding space is...limited.

[As are resources and he is nothing if not practical.]

Those are reasonable points, and I certainly cannot blame anyone for wishing to do matters their own way, rather than work in concert with someone.

[Not least of all for the fact that his own preference in that particular regard has ever been much the same.]

That said, I am not currently aware of any spaces that could be put to use, though I will grant that neither have I been looking for such.

...since when? I know the States had been getting odd about alcohol around the last I had any news from this side of the world, but I hadn't heard about a rise in allowable age. The Blue Horseshoe serves anyone simply able to see over the counter and do so confidently.

That would be very helpful, thank you. I would also like to hear what sorts of ailments and complaints you already know of as well; it's hard to build trust and a relationship at the early stages and harder to make a place to accommodate them without knowing what they are.

Well, I am glad for that. I would never say I'm not a team player, mind, only that I have a certain expectation of result that is better left to me to see through until better established.

It has so far been suggested co-opting an empty apartment with permission and setting up a temporary mess tent style arrangement as you might see in the military or a carnival. Not necessarily my first preference in either case, but I've done more with less before.

I've done more with less. All I need is the location from them for this supposed protection and turning off that glamor of theirs and the rest will be up to me.

Any mood or décor requests? I heard loud music might be appreciated, though I've been given permission to stick with the era of music I'm most familiar with.

A sentiment I have become well acquainted with, over the decades.

That would hardly be the most elegant of solutions, but it would function well enough for the time. Ah, and should it be of interest I do have some familiarity with the more military variety.

I mean, I work here so I wouldn't turn down a drink or two, but I can't say I'd relax much either.

[She gives a little shrug. She knows the apartments themselves don't seem to be monitored too closely, but well, it's still just not her favourite place to be.]

Bonnie's... ain't exactly crowded right now, actually.

[In fact, they could clear out a whole floor if one or two people moved around, not that she'd volunteer. On the other hand, the space might be needed again later, and it's probably not the best place for anything noisy.]

Can't say I know that, but it'll be a few more season's 'fore I turn 21. I'm over at Ms. Bonnie's flophouse. I'll be in the kitchen if you come by.

Lot of the heartache I know about here that's just part of it is folks with abilities at home feeling like they got a limb chopped off when they're told they're never allowed to use those ever again. And that the thing fueling 'em is evil.

Do you? That might be of interest. For the stories if nothing else. As I told the person who suggested it, we are uniquely situated where we are half as like soldiers and half simply civilians in the wrong place at the wrong time. Eventually, those on one half will find themselves on the other. Those people made to be soldiers who aren't are the ones who need the most help and comfort.

I've never been on an active field myself, but I served plenty of both solders and people made to be soldiers in my time.

Well, there's the rub, isn't it? Where would you feel comfortable here? Or is there a way a space could be designed or intended to offer more comfort? That is, after all, the end goal of this whole project.

Though, I will be sure to look into Bonnie's as an option as well, with the proprietor's permission.

Hmm...well, that is a conundrum. One I hadn't considered. [Since he's about as normal as they come on that front.]

I had intention to visit anyhow with a few people suggesting I set up there. I'll be by within the hour. Thank you, Miss Mercy.

[But he's certainly not going to walk with her on the phone, that seems odd to him, even if phones move about more these days.

He's there soon enough, dressed in his slacks and button-down, even if he's taken to leaving his vest and coat behind until a more proper time for them. He pauses by the memorial room before heading to Mercy's door.]

[Mercy answer the door quickly.]

Hey, Mr. Johnny, come on in.

[It's a cozy room with a bunk bed where only one bunk appears to be in use. There's a small collection of plants along the window sill and much of the limited free space is taken up by bolts of fabric and sewing area. There's also a tidy little desk that seems to have been preserved for someone else.]

Sorry I wasn't downstairs. We can head on down to the kitchen. Would've seen it while you were coming through. Just needed to water my plants.

I do. I cannot claim that all of the details will translate well, in the telling - nor would I consider myself aught more than someone who became such by necessity - but such tales as I might be able to manage I would gladly share.

Depends on how much they're watching us.

[And how much they believe the ADI would be telling the truth about not doing that, even if they say they won't. Not she wants to get too much into those worries on the network.]

But like I say, either way's better than nothing.

[Johnny looks around, hands in his pockets and a small smile on his face as he does, though there's a moment of pause given for the mention of the kitchen. Right...]

Of course, I probably should have just waited, but standing around a kitchen that isn't mine feels against my manners. Please, feel free to tend to your 'crop' I'm in no rush. These bolts...do you sew?"

In our time and with your comfort, I would ask nothing more than that of you. Stories should be shared freely for any number of reason, but always in comfort. Perhaps you can share yours when I offer the first round wherever I establish myself?

Then I suppose I'll put out feelers for all three of the options I've gathered and move in whatever direction offers the most safety and privacy; thank you. Though, if you think of any requests or concerns for the space in the meantime, my door will be open.

[Proverbially, at least.]

I suppose..can you describe the flavor profile of apple blood?

Mmm. And yours.

Absolutely not apple juice. And it's... kinda hard if you haven't had it.

[There's a pause on her end too.] Y'know what, come by sometime and you can try the closest thing I've been able to make.

[Oh, god, leaving the safety of his stomping grounds...no, he can do this.]

Of course! I would be happy to. Tell me what room and where and I'll be there.
