This is the problem with fashion- it's saying something about you, it wants to be looked at, and Martin is not the kind of person that gets looked at. Or well, he specifically tries not to be looked at. All of this is deeply overwhelming, but he'll stick out worse if he doesn't pick one, so he lives in Indecision Hell. At least now Cortana is asking about her, and the shift in focus does help.
