Oh. How absolutely astute.

Sett may not necessarily mean to, but his words hit Rue right in the chest, something soft and warm and lovely blossoming within them. It was all true, of course, that beyond the veil of polite society, Rue had simply done what they'd done out of care for the former Major. But for another to not only see the love between them but to actually acknowledge its existence? It was so unheard of back where Rue was from. These things were simply just not spoken of.

So it felt more than a little nice to have Rue's relationship with Hob so validated in such an open, casual way. Something stated as simple fact, instead of watching it be brushed under the rug. Not for the first time in their life, Rue was blessedly grateful for the feathers that covered up their soft blush.

"Thank you, my dear. That was exceptionally well said and - well - quite true. I do. I do care. He is very important to me."

Maybe it wasn't a true vase, but Rue had more than enough practice in making whatever they had available work for them.

"I must thank you for this as well." Taking the glass, Rue set to work, filling it at the sink with just enough water before gazing down at their new dress and using a sharp talon to delicately slice off one of the soft teal ribbons running down the bodice. With surprising ease considering their claws, Rue tied off a perfect bow around the middle of the new vase, before fluffing the flowers around to a most desirable effect. At Sett's generous offer for food, as well as that little sweet tidbit about his mother, their head turned a little owlishly towards him, warmth reflected in their big, dark eyes.

"You made all of this? Truly? I didn't realize you had such skill in the kitchen. I could certainly learn a thing or two from you, hm? But that is quite generous of you. Forgive my forward question, but did your mother teach you? I hear that is a skill that is quite often passed from parent to child on this plane."
