He hesitates and longs for the ease of word and comfort that others had so he could offer it to her. Mercy deserved that much. He would have to make do.

"I am no priest or cleric, I can't offer wisdom for your pain, but I know that there are times when you're right to question a god, especially one that hurts others for their own gain...and other times, a god might seem cruel to us because we can't see the whole picture that they do. In the end, you can only do what feels right and hope it carries you forward."

He gives her a gentle squeeze, some part of him worried the thinness of her skin wasn't just illusion and his grip might pull too harshly. "For my part...I am already dead. I should have died two years ago, the fact I am not is a blessing of time that is not mine to draw out." He offers her a smile he hopes is comforting. "But if I die tonight, then I am thankful to have met you and so many others. You made it worth continuing to try."
