Log | July Catch-All | OTA (plus prompts for Donna & Callisto)

Who: Caitlyn Kiramman and you!
When: July
Where: all over the place
Summary: Caitlyn adjusts to life in Massachusetts
Warnings: tbd

I. Interfering in an Investigation (Again) (OTA)

[While Caitlyn has enthusiastically joined the ranks of ADI's investigations unit, she is still afforded some free time, and what better use of that free time than to involve herself in police business? She heeds ADI's warnings, of course, and tries to avoid staying too close to any individual officers. This is made easier by the fact that the police make it clear they don't want her anywhere near any of their crime scenes, and that 'interfering with an investigation' is an offense for which they would be well within their purview to arrest her.

So when Caitlyn finds herself standing outside a line of police tape at a crime scene near the railroad tracks, she double checks that no one's looking before ducking under the tape to question a suspect who's been left on his own in handcuffs.

It takes all of twenty seconds for an officer to notice her and forcefully escort her back across the tape with a stern warning.

She turns in a huff, clutching her open notebook, phone, and pen to her chest, only to drop all of them when she unexpectedly knocks into another bystander.]

I-- I apologize, I didn't see you. [She kneels, awkwardly scrambling to pick up her things.] Are you alright?

II. Clothes Shopping (OTA)

[One of the first things Caitlyn realizes in her exploration of Gloucester is that the fashion here is wildly different than that of Piltover. She remembers the first lesson Vi taught her - blend in - and makes her way to a clothing store.

All of the clothing is adorned with numbers she doesn't understand. The price, presumably, and sizes? She has no idea what size she is. Her clothing has, for the most part, always been tailored or purchased for her.

It's immeasurably frustrating, realizing just how helpless she is in the real world.

Not to be deterred, she chooses a few items off the rack and makes her way to the changing room. She's left the little stall in a pair of something called 'jeans' and a blouse - buttoned all the way up to the collar - and is standing in front of a full-length mirror in the hallway, shoulders tense and brow furrowed, feeling increasingly foolish, when she notices someone vaguely familiar from ADI.]

Does this look acceptable? I'm afraid I... [Never bothered much with fashion before? Am from a completely different world where no one would ever dress like this? Have never really done my own clothes shopping before?

She glances around awkwardly to see whether anyone else might be listening.]
...am new to this.

III. Conspiracy Time (OTA)

[ADI's library is frustratingly small, and Caitlyn has yet to entirely figure out how the computers work. She has two notebooks with her: the first is her official notebook, the one she keeps on all ADI and Entity-related matters, which she's happy - if not overly enthustiastic - to share with any of her coworkers. The other is rather more clandestine. It contains all of her notes on ADI itself, everything that could point to the truth of their intentions. She isn't convinced, based on one conversation with Aelwyn, that ADI has some dubious ulterior motive, but she's not ready to dismiss Aelwyn's suspicions, either. Hence the notebook.

She hasn't been here long, but both notebooks are already filled with her compact, scribbled handwriting, paperclips and post-it notes and photos from the polaroid camera she spent her first paycheck on stuck to the pages. There's so much to learn about this new world, her new employers, and the new threats she's facing, and Caitlyn has never been anything short of exuberant about cataloguing new information.

Both of them are with her in the library today, and she's left them sitting on a table with a couple of books that seem potentially interesting while she searches the painfully ill-outfitted shelves for anything that might illuminate the history of ADI.

She's just starting to get frustrated with the library's small selection when she notices someone glancing at one of the notebooks, which must have fallen open. She hurries back to the table and closes it quickly, unsure of which notebook it is.]

That's, um. [She picks them up.] Mine.

IV. Getting to Know the Roommates (for Donna and Callisto)

(a). Laundry??

[Caitlyn has inquired with ADI personnel, who were less than helpful on the matter of laundry. There was something about facilities, but Caitlyn has no idea where those might be or how to use them or even what 'laundry facilities' really means.

So, dressed in one of the new outfits she's purchased, with the other new outfits and her bloody, paint-stained uniform in a hamper carried under one arm, she peers out into the hallway, hoping to encounter one of the people she's meant to be sharing this living space with.]

Excuse me?

[Fortunately it appears that one of her roommates is, indeed, here. She holds out her hand.]

I'm Caitlyn. It's a pleasure to meet you.

(b). Cooking??

[Caitlyn has often felt the opulence of the Kiramman Manor to be more a burden than a luxury, but this tiny apartment, which she's meant to share with two other people, will certainly be an adjustment. The bedroom is more a closet than a bedroom, barely large enough to fit a bed and something that's likely meant to serve as a desk. She's always tried to be polite and tidy and not leave messes for the servants, but she can already tell that taking out the bins and doing the washing up requires a surprising amount of effort. And now...

Cooking.

She's standing with her hands braced on the counter, head bowed, a pile of burned fish sitting next to her.]

This is absurd! I followed the instructions, I-- I set a timer! It can't be this difficult to prepare food!

[She grabs the fish and starts to empty it into the bin. Somehow, despite its blackened exterior, it's still raw on the inside.]

V. Wildcard!

[Feel free to throw anything at me!]

[... Aaaaaaand it's at this moment that Callisto comes in, dressed entirely in leather armor and smelling like a campfire. Clearly, she's been doing some cooking herself, but it hasn't been in here.]

Oh, you probably butchered it improperly.

[She drawls, in a bored tone.]

Did you catch it yourself?
myfavoritemurder: (I've done nothing wrong)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-07-25 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there's your problem; the shops here are terrible. This--

[She kicks the bin with a metal-studded boot, hard enough to rattle it.]

-- was probably rotten. Did you know they leave their meat sitting out for days?

[Callisto is, by now, familiar with refrigerators. She is not familiar with refrigerated display cases, and during her one and only trip to the grocery store a few weeks after her own arrival in Gloucester, she'd come to the understandable but entirely incorrect conclusion that all the cuts of fish and meat in the deli section were being held at room temperature.

Being from Ancient Greece is hard.]
myfavoritemurder: (let's start a motherfucking fiyahhhh)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-07-25 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[A slow smile spreads across her face at Caitlyn's startled little jump. This one, she predicts, will not fare too well in their house.]

What's your name?

[She coos, taking a step closer. Her body language exudes looming, even though Caitlyn actually has a few inches on her.]
myfavoritemurder: (well‚ this is going in the toilet)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-07-26 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Callisto.

[She tilts her chin up to look at Caitlyn, and seemingly has no shame about having to do so: her body language remains completely confident.

Though at the outstretched hand, her smile widens, and she actually shakes it for a moment.]

ADI thinks I should live here.

[Bruno should not be anyone's first choice of go-fer, least of all when it comes to the library, but here he is after someone more busy and important than him asked him to go check for anything on the Blynman Canal. Case in point: within moments of walking in he'd spotted a very interesting-looking journal all full of colorful notes and photos and--

He snaps upright, eyes darting around until he spots the owner of the notebook.
]

Oh! Oh, is this--this is yours? I wasn't looking.

[He was very obviously looking.]
myfavoritemurder: (I'm coming over to punch you in the face)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-07-27 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like buildings.

[Callisto says flatly, finally stepping back - though only by about a foot or so.]

You can keep ADI's little cage; I'm fine with the outdoors.

[You know, until winter rolls around again. November through March had not been a fun time for Callisto.]
citizendetective: (she goes to crazytown looking for fun)

[personal profile] citizendetective 2022-07-27 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you're fine!

[Says Misty, looking for all the world like Christmas has come early. Whoever this kid is, she is absolutely Misty's kind of person, and she decides right then and there that she's going to make it her business to get to know her.]

But come here. I have an idea.

[Turning away to move through the crowd of onlookers, she gestures for Caitlyn to follow her - away from where the officers are congregating, and around the far side of where the scene is taped off.]

I just got here; I don't even know what happened yet. Were you able to get anything out of the guy?
brunonono: (wide-eyed | say what)

[personal profile] brunonono 2022-07-27 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Bruno nods at that, eyes locked on the notebook until he finally manages to tear them away and make eye contact. It's fleeting, though; his gaze skitters around to look at everything but the woman to whom he's speaking.

He'd been merely curious before, but now that he can tell it's supposed to be secret, he feels hungry to see it. Hungry in that way he's felt a couple times when he could have had a vision since coming here, hungry that way he felt when he did see Katrina's future on accident. Twisting the hem of his ruana between his hands, he forces the feeling down. He isn't going to feed the thing that hijacked his Gift as soon as he got here. It's evil and he won't.
]

Oh, that's--it's not done, that's fine, I don't need to see it. Why would I need to see it? If I was looking, which I won't. Wasn't.

You should maybe put that away until it's done, then.
myfavoritemurder: (I'm coming over to punch you in the face)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-07-28 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I don't.

[She says, defiantly locking eyes with Caitlyn and refusing to break that eye contact.]

You see, if I spend the night inside and wake up looking at a ceiling instead of the sky, I sometimes forget, just for a moment, that my family was slaughtered and my home burned to the ground. And that's not a fun realization to have come crashing down on you, dear.
citizendetective: (giving a shit about children is very new)

[personal profile] citizendetective 2022-07-28 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's why we're going to sneak around back!

[She says in a hushed tone, ducking under the tape and then turning to do Caitlyn the same favor - and holding it up a little higher, because Caitlyn has nearly a foot on her.]

If they're being all hush-hush about it, it's probably something serious. Could be a murder, could be something supernatural...
myfavoritemurder: (is this what it's like to be Solid Snake)

[personal profile] myfavoritemurder 2022-07-28 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Of course not; they don't tell you these kinds of things. That would rob me of the pleasure of telling you myself.

[But by her flat tone, it's clear that "pleasure" isn't really the accurate word here.]

That's fine with me. I'll scream it from the rooftops if I have to.

[... Possibly literally.]
citizendetective: (I got to ass and a half this one)

[personal profile] citizendetective 2022-07-28 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they're planning to, and they just haven't gotten to it yet. They could be still figuring things, you know, considering their options-- but yeah, I totally think it could have been a murder. I mean, why be so secretive about it if it's just, oh, I don't know, drug-dealing or counterfeiting? And really, this is the perfect spot to... kill...

[Misty trails off, falling silent as she joins Caitlyn behind the train car, testing the door and finding it unlocked.]

Come on.
citizendetective: (she goes to crazytown looking for fun)

[personal profile] citizendetective 2022-07-28 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Keep watch.

[Because Misty is going to pull out her phone and start covertly snapping pictures: some of the whole scene, and some zoomed in at various key parts, such as the faces of the suspect in custody and the officers, and the mysterious thing under the sheet.]
