Neal very quickly ducks in to pick the knife up and back out of reach, so the man can't try and go for it.

The stranger snarls and tries to bite Winter's flesh-and-blood wrist, and Neal makes another noise of protest.

"Winter is trying to help, I promise you he is." He looks at the two teenagers. "Maybe go ahead of us. ...And hang on to this for him?"

He holds the knife out gingerly.
