I thought a lot was fake for a long time. A lot of it is. People who need mental health care, or who have drunk too much or had a bad trip.

But there are enough that ring true. They tend to be messier. Less neatly wrapped up.

I'm sorry that you've got embroiled in worse things. I hope this can lead to you being able to leave it behind.
