[Zhao squatted down as he searched for his gun. He hadn't tossed it aside or anything, it should be nearby. But the damn rocking of the boat probably had it skittered underneath something. He shoved a few blankets or life preservers or whatever away as he searched hurriedly until finally his hand touched hard, cold steel.
Well, that's what it felt like today anyway. Firm and reassuring. It described better than cold, hard plastic. Whatever.
As Zhao firmed up his grip on the gun and stood back up he frowned, gaze falling back on the seal for a moment. It's flipper movements were oddly patterned but he couldn't put his finger on why. He didn't know Morse code. Repetition, however, was obvious and meant more than just some dumb flipper flapping for the sake of it. If the seal repeated it, it probably meant something.
But he didn't have much time to think about it. The boat rocked as another kelpie rammed into it from below the water. Zhao managed to keep his feet, just barely.]
Why don't you come play with me on fair ground!
[He yelled out tauntingly. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to invite it in the boat. But to hell with it.]
