It's hard to say if it's the pull of the artifact, or just a level of dumb recklessness that seems to come naturally to particularly gifted Gifted people, but Jeff's already reaching for the mitt without a second thought. Luckily, that's when Binx smacks into his shin, and it's enough of a distraction that it startles the impulse out of him.

"Hey!" Rude. He closes the box and flashes a grin at his companion. "Chill, dude. Nothing happened. It's not like I just opened Pandora's Box or anything."
