Martin is following her directions, heart pounding, and he makes it to getting Hereward down before everything goes wrong. He looks up towards her to reaffirm her statements, get out of the way so she can work, and then it's just... over. He doesn't even have time to scream before there's blood and brains and skin on him, mixing with the insides of Hereward still on his shirt. Almost instinctively he goes to catch her, even if it means nothing, and he stops her fall enough to lay her down gently. It won't matter. None of it does.
He's got enough time to look towards the boy, hold his hands up like he's trying to tell him he's fine, they can talk about this before the gun is pointed at him too. He goes for the knife still on Mercy's body, but it's too late. There's a too-fast mix of noise and blood and pain and the next thing he knows he's sitting up in bed, shaking and sweating.
Later, he'll figure out that these were shared, that she might have seen all of that too-- but until then, he's going to roll over, curl into Jon, and just try to remember he's alive.
also cw: gunshots, character death, gore, the entire nine yards (and also probs wrapped)
