Neal has a very nice smile and Kate can't help but to smile back. The barista smiles back, writes his order down on a cup and then passes that cup onto another coworker to fill. Then it is Kate's turn to order. Miraculously, she is still awake. (What? His smile had been really nice and served as a distraction from the sleepiness.)
Kate knows what she wants but blanks when it comes time to give her order. She has forgotten the word for ice. "Caramel macchiato, on the rocks." The barista taking her order looks at Kate as though she has two heads before writing iced on the cup. "Can you add an extra shot of espresso to that, please? Thank you."
She pays for her order and then turns to Neal. "Sorry. I'm not scatterbrained usually." Because really, who orders an iced coffee drink on the rocks?
